Trying to type this fast because they're talking about it on the Today Show, so I think it's going to happen live there.

No more curse?

The "Bartman Ball" was a ball that was caught by a fan named Steve Bartman of the Cubs.

He interfered with Moises Alou during the NLCS last year. Alou would have caught the ball, then the inning would have ended and the Cubs probably would have finished and got to the World Series.

Since this game.. Bartman has been the butt of a lot of jokes, and he has also been taking a lot of criticism because of him catching the ball

I watched that game, but wasn't remembering the guys name that caught it. Guess I really didn't care too much either way. I still think that he got a raw deal. It wasn't his fault at all.....

After I signed off and watched for a bit longer before leaving for work, I found out that it's going to be destroyed tonight -- blown up in an explosive-proof clear box so everyone can see it go from being a white spherical piece of sports equipment to being almost nothing.

I had a feeling that ball would be cursed after Bartman interfered with Alou.

I still wouldn't call it interference, if they didn't want players to be abled to reach that far, they should have put the stands back a bit. And besides, he WAS NOT the only one trying for the ball.

Sorry to get off subject....

Destroying the ball is meaningless. That wasn't even the play that caused the Cubs to lose. The Cubs shortstop booted a ground ball in the same inning that led to the runs scoring. Plus, even if Steve Bartman had not caught the ball or interfered in any way, there is no guarantee Alou would have made the catch. It would have been a very difficult play for Alou, at best.

I thnk more than a few Cubs fans would be happier if Steve Bartman was in the box too...

And yes, I know it wasn't his fault. Everybody knows it's the goat's fault! :D

I watched the countdown LIVE on MSNBC. As a Cubs fan forever, I couldn't help it. In true Cubs fashion, it was a "bust"!"

This just cracks me up. and being a Red Sox fan, I can relate to the whole superstition thing.

It's good for baseball IMO. The rivalry between the Sox and Yankees has never been bigger, and I love it! Still trying to decide whether to purchase my "A-Rod s***s" t shirt.
