Selling one's SUV is somewhat akin to committing suicide...it is a PERMANENT solution to a TEMPORARY problem.

In Houston, it isn't 1 out of 3!!! I swear it is 3 out of 1!!! And now it is Hummers galore!!! Our gas prices are at $1.60 on average. I do think we will begin to see the amounts of these vehicles on the road dwindle as the price rises, even in the PICK UP TRUCK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!!!

I Just Went

#23 Postby Arizwx » Thu Mar 13, 2003 4:03 am

To put some gas in 'Chaser 1'.Prices went up again last night...203.9 cents/gall.
At this rate,I'll just park it.
It's outrageous and dangerous. This is now a matter of Natl Security,as Energy Costs continue to spiral up out of contral, unchecked by Greedy Oil Corps.Where in hell is their Patriotism? Why is gasoline going up?Perception of a War that has not yet even commenced.Uncertainty, and the fact that ppl HAVE to pay it.Transportation in our society for most,is not a luxury,it is part of our social construct.
Airlines...Jet-A Fuel.AMR/American Airlines on the verge of bankrupcy.
Our Independent truckers, nearly 1/3 on the verge of bankrupcy and so on.
This effects everything from the cost of a Fed-Ex package to the OJ we drink from Safeway. It's going to cost...dearly.We are facing serious consequences if our Gov does not take control of this, and fast.God forbid interest rates go up,that would do us in.
I'm writing this AM a 'Dear John' letter.Yes..Sen John McCain. It's time my voice was heard. If we all do it,someone has to get the message.
Maybe then, they can get on with this idiotic war and stop spending time renaming french fries and french toast.

Ariwwx - I couldn't agree with you more - our government needs to WAKE UP and do something about these outrageous gas prices - as you said its tentacles are long-reaching and affect everyone. Sure the IRAQ situation might be important - but this is AMERICA - what about the people that live here. I don't hear of anyone getting raises - I don't hear of any less taxes - and its not like this is just happening - its been going on since last year folks. people are hurting - our government needs to OPEN its eyes to the economy and do more than drop interest rates. IMO the war with IRAQ is only going to make the economic situation worse. To prove my point - how many members out there have recieved pay raises in the last 6 months to cover all the raising costs of gas, medical insurance and everything else? Wonder how many more drive-offs from gas pumps are now occurring?

Just my opinion - I like Arizwx will probably write my local representatives and express my opinions.

Something has to be DONE.

No offense taken DJ, it takes a LOT more than THAT to get ol snowmans feathers up in a dander! Guess the reason I posted this that someone DID get my dander up at the gas station just before I posted this, the reason you ask? I was fueling up at one of the locals favorite station, when this smart a$$ PUNK, snow boarder came in, filled his 2003 Ford Expedition, it cost him over 63$ to fill it, he came inside and said and I "quote", "Hell no wonder why these mountain hicks are crying the blues, not only did the fire burn their precious forest down, it SHOULD have burnt the TOWN down, let's face it, if it would have, they wouldn't be ripping us OFF on gas!"

Now DJ, I ask, how would YOU have responded to a remark like that, I am SO SICK and TIRED of these smart a$$ punks, Valley ppl coming up here and running us into the ground, they think we OWE it to them, they think just because they don't live here that the OWN the damn place, I for one cringe when I see a California license plate, talk about RUDE, SELF CENTERED, ME ME ME attitude, yes, we need the tourist dollars but we DON'T NEED the smart a$$ attitudes to go along with it now DO WE??? Yes, we lead a totally different life style up here, we ARE NOT self consumed with greed, with hatered towards our fellow man, I know it's environmentally caused, the crime rate has everything to do with it but does that mean that when they come up here that they NEED to bring their attituded WITH THEM, I think NOT!

I agree that was one jerk you met at the gas station, but that doesn't mean all SUV owners are that way. I don't know if you read my post above, but it doesn't cost my mom anywhere near $63 to fill up her Expedition. Probably half that!!

#28 Postby Arizwx » Thu Mar 13, 2003 6:26 pm

I just had an insulting Los Angelena(Female YuppieScum From Los Angeles)chew ME out for washing my dam windshield!I was 'In her way'.LOL.She said, you lame 'Zonis are sooooo sloooooow.LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
I then whipped out my still VALID California Driver's License(This is the Holy Grail of Documents for a Power Move)...and said:'If you plan on moving here, you had better back off,be friendly and lose the 'tude'..if not turn your Nipponese Acura(aka: expensive Honda) SUV(probably from a Divorce settlement)around and head back to La-La-Land.'She said...what happened to you dude..Go 'native'?'I said,'No.I was like this all my life..That's why San Franciscans like me HATE Lost Angeles! You stole OUR water!'She looked at me utterly clueless,as ONLY a Los Angelena could!Really Clueless!
ROFLMAO!
I continued washing the bugs off my windshield...s-l-o-w-l-y.hehehe.
Seriously,I did infact write Sen McCain. In the missive,I asked him a question. How does Cyndy feel about this war?Cyndy is John's wife, and a dear person. She is an heiress to the SoWest Budwieser Beer Distributors and lives in Sedona. They have a Special Needs daughter that they adopted from Bosnia, while Cyndy was doing volunteer UNICEF work over there some yrs ago.I know for one thing, she has seen needless suffering.
I know for a fact, that we don't need 1/3 of a Million troops to derail 40 Iraqi Punks that could'nt fight their way out of a Hefty Bag full of Pita Sandwiches.I also asked him this:'Had you become President of the United States,as I worked for you here in Pima County to accomplish just that...would we have 300,000 troops in the Iraqi theatre?'Would we be pandering to Saudi Arabia?Would we?What happened to the 'StraightTalk Express'?
I need to feed my family.I need to get on with my life.I need to be a good freind and neighbor.I even have to go to L.A. every now and then.
How much do we have to pay? What are the costs of this War?What are the reprecussions? And for how long? How long? How long do I need to worry about my 3 son's futures? How long?Straight-Talk John,How Long?
