In defense of the South Beat diet, I have been on it now since Sunday (today's day 5) and already I have lost 9 pounds. I am not starving myself; I'm eating 3 meals a day and having 2 snacks daily. My meals include chicken, pork, beef, vegetables (lots of them), salads, and eggs/cheeses.
The first two days were awful to get through. My body was craving the Coca-Cola and Pepsi that I used to drink by the gallon. And because there are others who are not on the diet in the house, there were still items like candy, ice cream, and cookies around. But I stuck with it and now I can look the other way without wanting a sugar rush.
One thing I have learned, though. I was supposed to donate blood yesterday at our blood drive. When the folks from the blood bank heard that I hadn't had any sugar in my body for the last 4 days, they wouldn't allow me to give blood. They told me that giving blood brings your sugar levels way down; without any sugar in my system, it would have put my lights out.
