Another Hack!
Something that should have taken a few hours has now taken over 24.After getting things to 90% with the help of Marshall and his friend and co-worker John.
However, about 3am this moring I was alerted by the data center that the server had been hacked again! Because we were still processing via ssh we had to keep telnet open and that is the way the got in and it is the same way they got in on Sunday.
They only had time to attack NHCWX and USweatherwatchers. They switched files and deleted emails. Since they corrupted the entire old drive,we are forced to replace this drive as well. This will require more downtime.
Because of the issues we had in restoring files and this new hack I feel it is best to just replace the drive and start over. This time we will not transfer files from drive to drive and this will keep the server off-line for many hours and possibly a full day.
At this time we have not decieded what time we will shut the server down.We have many things to consider.
I am truly sorry for the situtation. We will get this person(s).They have violated some documents, that now puts them under the Patriot Act.This is now a federal case.
Again I will post on when we take this server offline!
Thank you
Steve O.

GEEZ!!!! WHAT ^%$#***(^&^&%#$#%^&^$*^&'S THEY ARE!!! I WOULD LOVE TO STAND FACE TO FACE WITH THEM WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT!!!!!! Of course I will have to be in handcuffs too so I don't MAIM THEM FOR LIFE!!! Appropriate punishment would be having to sit in front of a computer with all their favorite hacking tools available to them without any means of accessing any of it for the rest of their life-like the Arabs do-now how many fingers/hands/nubs/ would we need to remove???

Wow, twice! I cannot believe it!! Your doing a great job, Steve. Keep up the good work!!
We bow down to your great efforts!
Lindaloo, I have been checking around on other boards and doing some research on what happens if you are caught hacking. I too thought it was just a random act at first, but I agree with you whoever is doing this must have a grudge against this board, or maybe even the moderators, dare I say it. I will keep you guys updated if I find anything.... and am hoping we catch this person sooner rather than later!

Steve, thanks for your hard work to resolve this problem. I hope whoever is responsible for this is caught quickly and pays dearly. This is ridiculous! Why attack a non-profit weather message board?

Just so everyone knows...when the site goes down for repairs, the chat room is still open. You can still get in with java by going to the storm2k home page http://www.storm2k.org/ and clicking on "Chat Room" or this direct link: http://www.stormdancing.net/network/jav ... torm2k.htm
Save it now and you'll have it.

Is there any chance this hacker did something so that we would get spyware on our computers when we access Storm2K?
I had a bear of a time with my home computer the other day and kept getting linked to "www.incredifind.com" whenever I tried to first log in to my primary DSL page. Other regular pages wouldn't load. The SBC guys had me uninstall and re-install my software for my DSL and then ran a couple of other things. Haven't had any problems yet, but then again, I've only logged in at home once since the 3 AM attack and have yet to really give it a look to see if "incredifind.com" is going to visit my webpages again.
And now, here at work a couple of times, the same thing is happening. I ran Ad-Aware and cleaned everything but I still got it (incredifind.com) about a half hour ago.
Since Yahoo, FoxNews, MSNBC, Ebay, and Storm2K are the basic sites I surf and since S2K is the one being subjected to these idiotic attacks, I just had to ask.
Anyone else getting re-directed to incredifind.com when you try to visit a webpage?
(And darn it, if it didn't just happen again when I tried to hit submit. Closed my browser and got back here...but I'm wondering what the heck?)
