Brazil Preparing for more Phenomena

#1 Postby Hyperstorm » Mon Mar 29, 2004 11:22 am

Cachoeira Paulista- Just like in other countries there are natural disasters occuring more frequently and more intensely, Brazil wil be no exception. "We have to stay alert to this kind of phenomenon since the world is going through an intense variability", explained the gallery coordinator of the Forecast Center of Weather and Climatic Studies (CPTEC) of the National Institute of Spatial Researches (INPE), Maria Assunção Saus da Silva. According to the specialist, the possibility exists that cyclones will be revealed with more frequency in the country. "We will be evaluating from now on, since the world is possibly verifying bigger phenomena each time".

The phenomenon recorded last weekend had formed seven days ago over land and it was followed by the Brazilian Institutes of Meteorology. The cyclone was heading toward the open sea, where it began to strengthen. "We knew that it would pass within 200 kilometers of the coastline, but it was not possible to detect in which places it would be more intense", he explains.

What caught the attention of the meteorologists was the eye - dark region without clouds in the center of the cyclone - that rarely, according to the coordinator, develops. "It is not possible to say that this is the first time, but this eye is rare and will be a target of many studies".
