I'm sick again--4 times in 5 weeks

#1 Postby sunnyday » Sat Apr 03, 2004 6:01 pm

I can't believe it. I have that horrible sore throat, achiness, and sinus probs again. I just had this 4 weeks ago. In between the two episodes,
I've had terrible stomach flu--twice. I'm falling apart. :grr:

I'm sorry to hear that! Have you gone to see a doctor?

Sunny, sinus problems are the pits!!!!! When the temps change dramatically like they have in my area lately, your head can feel like a barometer!!!!!
Hang in there. The weather will be consistent before you know it. If this continues you really should see a doctor. ((Hugs)) might help.

From what you described, a visit to an ear-nose-throat specialist should be a priority...

sunnyday, YOUR health comes before anything else; because "everything else" depends on you being healthy!

Sunnyday, please throw out your toothbrush after everytime you get sickand replace it with a new one. By using the same one you used while you were sick transfers germs to the toothbrush and you keep re-infecting yourself. Also start taking Vitamin C tablets on a daily basis with Vitamin E. These two help to boost the immune system to keep you healthy. I do this since my dentist told me about it, and I haven't had a serious cold in over two years now. I take 2 500mg of Vitamin C and 1 1000I.U. of Vitamin E. My endocrinologist told me to keep taking it after my thyroid cancer.

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions. The toothbrush hit home; I have been using the same one through all of this. I'll try the vitamins, too.
I really appreciate it....

Sorry to hear that, sunnyday. Hopefully the toothbrush has been the culprit and ditching it will solve the problem. I sure hate being sick, but come to think of it, I think the last time I was sick was last Spring Break -- almost a year ago :D. Oh wait... that probably means I'm overdue for a cold or flu... *starts taking Vitamin C tablets again*

Sunnyday, the only symptoms I had were the lump in the right hand area of my throat in the front, and a very intense itch in that area. It itched so bad that I had to get that Lanacaine and that only dulled it down to a low level of pain. The tumor I had was inside the thyroid gland and was getting ready to spread when I had surgery to remove my thyroid. It was the size of a tennis ball. It had not spread beyond the inner lining of the gland so I was very lucky. I take the medication Synthroid now to replace the thyroid's function and will have to take it for the rest of my life.

I will vouch on the vitamin front!!! I have taken megadoses of C and Multivitamins for years and very seldom do I get anything like a cold. I do have the sinus probs due to allergies, but I have probably had like 2 colds in the last 10 years.

I will vouch for vitamins myself. I take a multivitamin and Vitamin C regularly and I RARELY have a cold. I'm sorry that you're going through this sunnyday, but it could be allergies like Karan was alluding to or something else. I'd take the advice of the others and see a doctor and throw away that toothbrush!

I'm sick again...

#12 Postby sunnyday » Sun Apr 04, 2004 12:47 pm

I threw my toothbrush away. Talking about never having colds and sore throats, before these last few weeks, I very rarely caught anything like this. My immune system is not up to par, I guess. I hardly get over one thing before another arises. Re the allergies: I've been tested for everything under the sun, and all showed a negative. I'm exposed to everything at the school, of course, but I haven't been susceptible to this stuff before. Anyway, I'll add something to my multivitamin. Thanks so much for all of your kind advice.

sunnyday - decades ago I worked for ENT surgeons and seemed to always be sick. Since I answered phones with other employees and patients were breathing all over us at the front desk, we swabbed the phones daily with alcohol wipes. But I still got sick. Then I began taking liquid Geritol and get this, I was only 25! But it had added iron and I swore by it back then. It got me thru some bad winters when it seemed all around me people were geting sick. I still caught viral infections but not as many. I've taken a flu shot since the early 90s and swear by them now. Gave up liquid Geritol years ago too but for a while there, it really seemed to help me. You take between 1 and 3 tablespoons daily. So at the flu peak, I took 3, when illness was at it's lowest and I was feeling great, I took 1 a day. Just a thought.
