You are right. Both boards serve their purpose. I think the biggest difference between the two is that on here, you'll find the atmosphere is more family oriented.

Perhaps it is more "family oriented", but in my book that equals sheltered and watered down. If I had a 6 year old I would certainly recommend that they read this board over reading others, but I am an adult.

Then act like one. If you do not like it here then I will be happy to show you the door.

As far as name calling here in the board it isnt tolerated and it is deal with swiftly. I have my differences with the mods here but im not gonna sit back and watch them get raked over the coals like this. They do a good job overall.

Raked over the coals??? Because I am questioning the level of tolerance here? Wow

You need to go back and read the rules of S2K. You have no right to question the level of tolerance here if you had read the rules.

I read the rules and I am still questioning them. You are far too self important if you can't handle a debate about them.

If you do not like how we run the board then why are you here? Who are you to come here and tell us how to run a board?

You have, and will continue to, run the board the way you want to, and that's fine by me. Doesn't mean everyone has to shut their mouth and pander to you. In fact I don't think I have even violated your rules, unless being fake and simplistic is one of them.

CT...what is the purpose of this? To ruffle a few feathers over here?

Many people choose this board because there is no cussing and very little name calling. The admins who OWN this board have their rules and any visitor should respect them enough to obey them.

Absolutely, and I have respected them. I haven't used bad language have I? The admins may have set the rules, but that doesn't mean I can't question them. The rules in and of themselves are not all that bad, its the moderators' interpretation and enforcement of them that is troubling. I am well aware that this is how thing are done here, nothing wrong with discussing it though, there is always a better way.

Um wrong, you can't question the rules, but you do have to abide by them. End of story.

This is interesting to watch develop. Storm 2k is much like the weather boards of 1999 and 2000, that is cordial and I am not saying that those older dates means being civil is outdated. It is just that the passions of weather observation and forecasting began to be displayed, really with WWBB as the starter, in a more confontational manner and it caught on. I do believe it caters to a lesser rather than grander instinct but I am convinced that this horse out of the barn will not go back in. Storm 2k very well may, and very well should, keep a tighter reign of civility; I have become accoustomed to some battle royals and although never a provoker myself I do not shrink from being a responder if incited to be so.

Most members of WWBB respect each other, partially because debates are allowed to play out and if they are harsh then so be it. This was the case for Ert and me over at WWBB. As a result of us being involved in an intense debate with (gasp) namecalling, we got to know each other better and we now respect each other completely. This would not have happened in a sheltered and fake environment.

I can't question the rules? Don't you see anything fundamentally wrong with that statement?

I don't think it is "fake" to present the environement of greater civility, I just think it is the exercise of a differing option than we are accustomed to over at WWBB, not necessarily better nor worse, just different.

.....and if you really think about it, having boards "as opposite" as WWBB and Storm2K are, those that frequent both boards have two different
perspectives to look forward to.

Different, yes, but worse IMO. Just look at the controversy I have caused tonight by questioning this board's standards. For me its quite obvious that some people here take themselves way too seriously.

It's not a matter of questioning the rules. It's the manner in which you are questioning... It appears that you are not questioning the rules as much as you are challenging the rules.
