"No dummy. nice try", and again…"but lets so I can show you how idiotic (any members name) post is."

“(any members name) please stop posting . You are embrassing yourself....”

Just curious about board policy

The terms "dummy" and "idiotic" qualify as personal attacks, but are relatively mild compared to SOME we've seen over the past few days.

More than likely, you would be notified by PM, and asked to refrain from further name-calling.

The last phrase is a bit condescending, and you might expect a friendly PM on that one, as well...

Obviously, the mods handled some serious issues by deleting posts with offensive language. (Thank you, mods! :) ) Some other, more tame name-calling is dealt with accordingly (like Bill said, PM's most likely.) Light-hearted jabs and belittling terms of endearment are acceptable as long as it is obvious that the poster is kidding.

Are you clear on the issue now, you dork?

not close. If cannot NAME CALL those who disagree as LIBERALS traitors terrorist supporters etc and then not expect a response.

That is Name calling every bit as bad as saying Dummy.

There's a slight difference. Calling a specific someone a "dummy," an "idiot," or a censored epithet is a personal attack. Calling a group of people a name based on generalizations is, in most cases, a debatable point and not personal, IMO.

I'm a member of a group who is generalized about left and right all the time. I don't consider it a personal attack unless someone specifically tries to say it about me. Even then, if they're saying it because they assume it based on generalizations, then it's still debatable because I can argue where, in my opinion, they are wrong because they don't know me and don't know what I do, how I feel, how I live, or what I believe.

Not all liberals are traitors, not all conservatives are redneck southerners, not all Arabs are terrorists, and not all lawyers are crooks.

Agree here in that if is stated that "those that are harassing Bush are a bunch of as*es" that is mostly a political commentary with a slight profanity. Stating "your oppostion to Bush shows what an as* you truely are" is a personal attack.
These boards thrive on a certain element of ill will and controversy, that cat got out of the bag a long time ago and it is not going back in.

God forbid there be controversy. Just cute avatars fit for a toddler and mindless ego stroking.

Controversy is not the issue. The name-calling and flaming is the problem.

Why does everyone have to be protected from being called a name? Words don't hurt, they really don't. There are some people that are just ignorant people, and they deserve to be told so. Not everyone has to always get along and play nice. That's not how life is and that's not how a message board should be. Obvious trolls are one thing, name calling in the heat of debate is another. It's a shame so many have to be shielded from reality, its okay to speak in harsh terms sometimes, anyone who really stands for anything has.

Why call someone names when civil conversations or disagreements are much more adult-like? Calling someone stupid makes one wonder if the poster making the post is an adult or a child.

Don't you believe that there are stupid people in the world? Or do you think everyone is of equal intelligence? What is wrong with calling it as you see it?

Well the vision of S2K is to have a great place to post without all the name calling and also a great environment for kids to also post and enjoy themselves. There are no stupid people here. And there are no people on ego trips as you put it. This site was also created for weather enthusiasts. If you do not like our little world then find somewhere else to post. If you enjoy all the flaming and name calling then I suggest you wait til your board of choice comes back online. Because we are not the place for you.

If you read my posts at WWBB you'll see that I do not initiate flame wars. I don't enjoy partaking in what you would call flaming, but I am also against being sheltered from what I would consider to be reasonable disagreements that escalate because people hold strong views. Your response to Widremann in the "obituary" thread is exactly what I am talking about.

What do you not understand? Did my post above not sink in? Either abide by the S2K rules or take it elsewhere. It is plain and simple.

And my response in the other thread is justified. He attacked the poster and offered nothing.
