Look at that meso in the Gulf

#1 Postby hurricanetrack » Sun Apr 11, 2004 12:11 pm

Take a look at this long loop radar:

There is a nice meso rotation at the bottom of the image scooting across the Gulf of Mexico. Pretty cool on radar- but bad for boaters!

Look at it now on Eglin AFB, FL (Northwest Florida) ... very impressive mesoscale low ... with a classic bow-echo signature and the rotating comma-head on the northern end of it ...(TIME SENSITIVE)

Miami area forecast Mon. thru Tue.

Monday. Mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some thunderstorms may be strong. Highs in the mid 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Monday night. Mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows in the lower 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Tuesday. Mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs in the lower 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Looks like this will bring some much needed rain here with wild fires still plaguing the some locations, just keep an eye out for severe weather on Mon.

Yep...looks like a good severe theat for most of the southeastern states tonight (and especiallly into) tomorrow.

Vigirous mid-level shortwave is rotating through and the dynamics associated with it are really firing this system up. Models are coming into focus with a pretty good wind event (downburst) problem for tomorrow.

For local interests down here..the Miami NWS forecast office thinks that most of the dynamics will stay to the north of Lake Okechobee:

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mfl/newpage/cgi ... &name=Area\sForecast\sDiscussion

But the SPC thinks that there will be some action down here tomorrow (and early Tuesday):

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html

Some of the uncertanity about today's activity will be alleviated with results of special 18Z soundings...the 12Z data wasn't very good down here...MLB covers this nicely:

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mlb/cgi-bin/pro ... &version=0

Given that generally I have more faith in the MLB office than MIA (or is it MFL now?)...and given that I think the SPC does a better job with stuff like this when they conflict with our local office...it could be an interesting cople of days.

Since this is the tropical forum...I have to make this topical...so I wouldn't expect any tropical development out of this...

Another zoomed in view from ABC 28 in Tampa...btw it does not look as bad as it is because the radar beam is attenuating or having to shoot thru heavy rainfall closer to the site...
