I want it back!
Moderator: S2k Moderators
I have grown to enjoy WWBB more and more in the last month (rapidly in in the last week or so).
It isn't possible to make responses or even think of issues to talk about here, with fewer members. Members that would most likely stay if they are "given the cold shoulder," for lack of a better phrase; thus the decline of posts per day. It is certainly evident in the Stats Forum.
If I truly didn't like coming here, I wouldn't be spending vast amounts of time logged in scanning, reading and posting when I am in front of my computer.

I think you're completely clueless as to how things are; get a grip on reality. Just because WWBB is not ultra-conservative and family-oriented does not make its regulars "trolls." You go over there and reads posts from regulars like weathafella, donsutherland, HM, CTshoreWx, HuffWX, and others, then come back and tell me that we're all useless trolls. Far from it; in fact, we can handle heated debates without going delete-happy and still not hate each others' guts when we come out of it, which is a good thing IMO.
There has been no increase in trolling here whatsoever since the WWBB went down. Will, Winni, WidreMann, and others who have temporarily taken to posting here are as intelligent and worthy of listening to as anyone here is IMHO, and they most certainly do not troll.
BTW, just a general note to the moderators: this thread contains a lot of negative comments and even borderline personal attacks towards WWBB frequents, and as such needs to be edited IMO if the rules are to be applied consistently.
Brett, that's the point that I made in a prior post ..
Storm2k has its set of rules, WWBB has its set of rules ...
I enjoy seeing the people that post on both the boards, and there's nothing wrong with that ... On WWBB, the controversial level is on a much higher level than right here on Storm2k ...
What it boils down to is a level of respect ... Storm2k was founded, as Miss Mary stated, as a family-oriented atmosphere, and rules and guidelines were set in stone, and those rules apply to everyone, no matter who visits and are registered members. WWBB has more of the hardcore flavor to it, and I don't have a problem with that, either ... I easily adapt to that style.
A troll has no level of where they come from ... and a good majority of the WWBB posters are not trolls ... Personally, I don't mind seeing some controversial topics and good heated debate...just as long as it doesn't turn personal. And IMHO, I don't want to see another TWC, either ... (which, BTW, is about as dead as a mortician's office) where anything controversial is deleted, which I don't think Storm2k is in the slightest.
Again, the Storm2k rules apply to everyone, and while here, those rules are to be followed ...

Tom - oops, just going by what it says under each post I make. Off by a day, oh well.
I certainly don't want this entire thread to turn negative or complain about new members who do not follow rules. I just don't want us all to lose sight of the very family type atmosphere that this site was founded on. Stormsfury, your reply was quite thorough and I agree 100%. You had some very good points and comparisons to make.
And finally Eric - your very simple reply said volumes with me!!! Knew you'd be in my corner (as most are here, thanks for the replies). To anyone who's new here, if you can play by our rules, then we'll warmly welcome you into the fold.

Located where? I see the date you joined to the left of every post you make.
It does seem rather strange that a family atmosphere doesn't make any sense to those that don't like to post there. But at the same time as I mentioned in my post above, I have grown more accustomed to how and even why WWBB members act. Not saying you are kidding, etc. isn't easy to understand; so I hope I am not the only one.

That deleting thing i totally disagree with. I lost count long ago as to how many post have been deleted over there especially ones that were done in respect but didnt agree with some of the views over there and who was this done by you say? Try BOTH the Mod's and as well the posters themselves who are great at deleting thier own threads once they seem to lose a argument. So your argument there is null and void! Only thing that gets deleted here is when its a personal attack or cussing which i for one see no problems with. For the rest of my comments about the wwbb and storm2k see my post in Weather53's thread!
Oh and sorry Brett but you VERY WELL know how this site is run and how the posters here post and act towards eachother and for them seeing what they have with some of those (Not All) who have come here from wwbb to post yes it would appear that they are troll's because people here on Storm2k isnt use to that kinda stuff such as those who post at wwbb. Sorry but Storm2K is NOT WWBB Never has been and never will be THANKFULLY!

I noticed right away Storm2K was a warm, caring environment that encouraged ~everyone~ to contribute, no matter how big or small. It had that one-for-all, all-for-one feeling, the minute you logged on. The PBS just wasn't a fabricated place, it truly existed here! I felt this way up until a week or so ago. Now I think we've somehow lost this feeling or if it's still there, it's buried under mud slinging/name calling/deleted threads, too numerous to count or even bother to mention. Not my intention of this topic anyway......what I'm trying to say is this.....
I want it back! I want our former comraderie back.....I hope it's not too late.
Okay, who's with me on this? Thanks for reading....
Mary
Mary, thanks SO much for putting into words something that has been on my mind for a long time. The only difference with me is that I have felt this feeling slip away for a while now. I don't want to go into further detail, because I'll be hounded and interrogated endlessly about it. I will just say that me feeling this way has nothing to do with the WWBB people coming over. Thanks again!

I agree with Brett that not all WWBB members are trolls. However to say that trolling here has not increased since WWBB went down is just incorrect. We have banned at least three people since last Thursday. There are a group of trolls there and when they come over here we take care of them as soon as they cross the line. I think one of the differences is in the tone of the posts between the two boards. The level of sarcasm and downright anti-social behavior allowed there is much higher than we allow. The problems arise when people can not or will not adjust the tone of their posts to STORM2K standards.

Captain Har wrote:Since when are decenting views by people from another board have to be classified as "trolls". Is this your little comfort zone to feel good about your own views, or are you open for some serious debate?
We in fact encourage good hard nosed debate-AS LONG AS IT IS RESPECTFUL TO THOSE INVOLVED ON ALL SIDES!!! I am not talking about if someone disagrees it disappears. I am talking about the fact it is QUITE SIMPLE TO HAVE A HARD HITTING, HARD NOSED, DISAGREEING DISCUSSION WITHOUT EVER CALLING SOMEONE STUPID, MORONIC, WACKO, OR ANYTHING ELSE OF A DEROGATORY NATURE!!!!!
There are those that come from other boards(I will not name any specifics)that seem to think that name calling is part of debate. THOSE ARE WHAT I CLASSIFY AS TROLLS. I guarantee you that if some of what has happened here of late in some "debates" even started in a true debate-high school level or otherwise- that person would be escorted from the hall! That is simply what happens here when someone refuses to be RESPECTFUL!!!

Trolls? I think not. I dont post here much but I lurk often. Most posters over at WW are Liberal. Try being a conservative on that board. It can be enough to pull your hair out. I wouldnt give it up for anything. The debates are ten times better when there are differences rather than the lovefest of agreement you sometimes get here. I rarely see people call Rainstorm aka Jxdama a troll here. She has 5000 posts at WW and is hated by most posters at WW for the ultraconservative views she espouses.
As for the weather side of the board WW has professionals such as HM, WxRisk, Jeff Beraldi, Andy Weingarten along with a host of well educated amatures that make weather debate second to none.
I like Storm 2K although I would like to see better weather related discussion.

I agree Miss Mary... I came back yesterday after leaving on Thursday and thought to myself, "What happened?"

People come in and out of our lives...sometimes just bumping into them in the same line...other times hanging around in the same neighborhood.
Open forums...those that are truly open, have the risk of conversations from all types of people including those that are just passing through. Some of them are there to contribution and learn. Others to spur debate. Still others to simply divide and frustrate.
Mary, there is no real way that a growing family can stay the same, but we can and should reinforce the core values. Yes, this is a conservative board. And it is family-oriented. We should reinforce those values.
Our rules are those of respect. We need to be careful not to confuse those core values with respect. Different opinions, even strongly differing opinions, don't make someone a "troll." Lack of respect does.
There is no doubt we at Storm2k need to stay on the high road here. The high road remembers our roots and respects differing opinions. Mostly, it respects us as people.
If someone prefers "in your face" confrontations and name-calling, then they do not show that respect and should be shown the door.
Sometimes, however, some of the most differing of opinions and ideas can be very good catalysts for debate and conversation. I'd hate to see people shown to the door for just having different ideas.
Mary, the core values of Storm2k are the same. In our growth we have opened the door to more diversity and differing ideas. If we take the high road and remember where we came from, we will do fine and continue to prosper. You will discover that we are not far from the Front Porch after all.

So very eloquently put Popsky... as always.
My concern is that there has been so much bickering on here as of late... from both sides. It seems more like a message board for people to argue than express opinions. I hope that this is only a phase and that the anger dies down soon. It is okay to have differing opinions (I know that I have different opinions of most of the mods here, but we still are friends.), but when it becomes negative it drives people away from posting.

Good post! We would never show anyone the door for just having different ideas. Actually, I wish we had more liberals on the board because I love a good debate. Unfortunately, it seems that many of the ones who join end up getting themselves banned for the "in your face" confrontations and name-calling incidents you mentioned. So, we end up with more conservatives on the board.
SF's post said it very well. When you come here, abide by the rules here. When you go over there, post however you want, whatever they allow. It seems so simple...
...so why is it so hard for some?

Stephanie, I don't think she is saying she doesn't like the rules. It just seems like some members who have been here for a while of various levels of authority have somehow taken a turn for the worse. Like I said in my post last week, let's get along. Let's not bash someone because they are liberal or conservative or their hair is green (No, mines not. I grew out of that stage). Some people aren't posting fairly in debates. They hide behind their title and down people because "they are idiots and can't read or think straight"
