Welcome Storm 71852! The Pot Belly Stove is just kind of a old country store thing where everyone drops in, says hello, and catches up with everyone else!
Usually you'll find a few people sitting around having a cup of tea and a Krispy Kreme! Pull up a stool, cozy up to the fire and relax a bit!
Again, Welcome to Storm2K!

Just a regular meeting place brought over from the days of TWC's messageboards. azsnowman and a few others are credited in the naming of it and it just serves as a conference hall, convention place, bulletin board....almost anything you want to make of it. For the most part, its mainly used as an update on each of our individualistic lifestyles and also where we can talk just about anything in our lives as well....like a journal.

Actually, I started the Pot Belly Stove shortly after 9/11, I got the idea from Lindaloo who had a thread at TWC called "Our Circle of Friends" I came up with the idea from my childhood, there was a general store in McNary Arizona WAY back in the 40's till late 1977 when the store was torn down. Inside the store was this HUGE pot belly stove from the old Round House, y'all know what a round house is don't y'all? This pot belly sat in the middle of the store and ALL the old timers would grab a cuppa Joe from the little cafe inside the store and sit and shoot the breeze. AH...those were the days, not too many problems like we are facing in todays world, it was a SIMPLE world back then. So there you have it, the Pot Belly Stove (not to toot my own horn or nuthin like that LOL) has kinda become a hmmmm, would you call it a legend??? I don't know, but the PBS is one of the longest running threads in TWC message board history and is slowing becoming the #1 thread over here too!

If I may give a bit more history on the origin of the original PBS. When the Weather Channel chat room suddenly closed for good, Feb. 2001 (we knew it might be closed but had hoped they'd keep it going), we chat room regulars were left high and dry. I for one rarely checked TWC boards but suddenly I was missing all my chat buddies. So I browsed the message boards. Turns out, I wasn't alone. I do think chat closing brought a lot of new people to the boards, many former chat regs. Then one day a good friend, Cyclone (not to be confused with our good friend here, Cycloneye), a former chat reg, decided to start a topic called - just saying hi - and see who was around from chat that wanted to say a quick hello. His topic took off like gangbusters. So much so, that it was sabatoged many times and had to be restarted. We encouraged anyone posting on TWC boards to hang out with us at the just saying hi topic. But maybe they felt like they weren't part of our group, since many hadn't come to chat before it closed. I think it was Dennis who had the great idea to start a seasonal topic and make that our hang-out. Memory is foggy here, so I'm not sure if the first topic was Sitting on the Front Porch or Sitting Around the Pot Belly Stove? Anyway, Dennis' topic(s) took off like crazy too. Since we didn't have chat anymore, I always thought of the PBS topic like our Chat Room (although we have one here, which is very nice!). Even better, actually. I also liken it to our very own Cheers, where everyone knows your name!
Sorry for that long winded answer!
