Tom, it's funny that you say this, because I have felt "robotic" appropriate for your posts at times. I don't mean that as a flame, but just pointing it out. :D

Its not that your posts are robotic tom. Maybe its just that you take everything so seriously. Like posting threads about the frequency of the word "the" in a particular day and talking about the war w/ the same amount of seriousness. I guess you put alot of emphasis on things that most people don't normally think about or smthg. But thats kinda cool

Timing as in flow or rhythm. Like poetry.

I take things more seriously than others?

There should be nothing wrong with things that are on my mind to discuss with large groups online. That is what we are here for.

It should be an excellent thing bringing up thinks other people don't. Which you say is kinda cool; I guess that isn't total coolness.

Flaming or not, twenty other people can post exactly what I posted here and I sound like a robot?

I was just saying how i can sort of see how people would call you robotic, but i don't think you are. B/c you like stats so much like you are a calculator or a database...and so you may treat all things like this in a subconscious way or smthg.

I think Tom focuses on things others don't catch because of his Aspberger's (sp) I heard a story on NPR last night about a woman who had that syndrome who was doing terrible in school, but somehow she got hooked up with this group studying gorillas and she was their main woman, as she was able to focus and write her notes in her head, and then put them on paper when she got home, being very detailed because she was able to totally focus on the gorillas.

I kind of agree with you here, Tom. I think a lot of people let the fact that you have stated that you have Asperger's influence their opinion of your posts. You do have a very serious tone, but so do I, Weather53, and some other regulars. I don't think that if you showed up at a new forum and neglected to mention your AS condition that anyone would see anything that unusual about your posts. There are a wide range of personalities on the Internet, and yours is certainly more serious than average, but not extreme by any means IMHO.

I suppose I mean that to a degree and at the same time not sure, JQ. I just don't see why it was brought up in a sort of negative way. That is to say the way we express ourselves are more subtle than I have believed them to be when this issue comes up.
Gotcha. You mean some people that you think are passionate about a certain topic...reply to that topic with little or no passion??

That isn't true, Brett. "You know who" at WWBB said my posts were "robotic" before I ever mentioned I have Asperger's Syndrome. Bringing up I have this condition is good for everyone, I would hope.

Only a handful of members of this site know I have Asperger's. The three threads on it have been buried.

If you want to think I take things seriously, I guess I can't change your mind.

brettjrob wrote:Interesting topic, Tom. No matter how much we try to be unique in our style of writing, there really are only so many ways to formulate grammatically correct sentences. This is one reason why English and writing has never interested me much; it's so subjective and hard to define what's good and bad. I cannot stand it when English teachers grade your writing based on style because there is no set "correct" style, and one teacher may love a style another fails students for using.
I completely disagree...reading books by others is enhanced thousands of times if they have a good grasp of language and how to use it in their own particular way. I can read a book for no reason but the flow of the words...it's just beautiful. Just like a song.
It's the difference between scientifically oriented minds that are more boxed by their own Aristotelian logic vs those who are more interested in the humanities. Neither is better, but they are different.

You didn't miss much. Just the robotic voice of "Microsoft Sam" telling you that you don't come across as a robot.
