Yeah unless his homework is graded, I wouldn't try to copy out of the back, just pick a few problems and complete them, you will learn more that way. I rarely do all the problems in a math hw assignment. Typically I do 1/4 of my hw, and it seems to work well. it allows you to focus on the understanding more than worrying about getting it done.

It is graded, unfortunately. As a result, I waste more time copying the problems out of the book than I would actually doing 1/4 of the problems thoroughly, which would actually help me learn... but that's high school. When I regularly get 2+ hours of homework from one class every other day, that's just not doable IMO with 6 other classes to worry about. I'm pretty sure the majority of my class does the same thing I do because it's just not a reasonable amount to expect us to do.

Doesn't seem to affect my test grades, ColdFront. I learn by reading the textbook and figuring things out as I go along, and if I'm struggling with the section then I'll try some of the problems on my own (I don't always copy like this

).

Brett, 2 hrs of homework is TOO much. Does the teacher not do any teaching in class? Some of the schools around my area have a policy of limiting the amount of homework that a teacher can assign. I think that is a good idea. While homework is a great way to inforce what was learned, too much homework can have the opposite effect (your example works well...just copy the answers and not try to work the problems because there are too many). Sometimes I wonder if some teachers just get a buzz out of assigning so much homework.

Tim, I typically have 3-6 hours of homework for each class each day. Chem alone yesterday have 45 problems, combined with reading the entire next chapter. Have I started yet? Nope! Maybe this afternoon.
