Damage to crops caused by Typhoon Sudal on Yap has more than doubled the price of betel nuts in the Northern Mariana Islands.
Prices there have gone from about 10 US cents a piece, to 25 cents.
The Northern Marianas consumes almost five million betel nuts a year, and relies on Guam and Yap for supplies.
However, a ban is in place on betel nuts from Guam because of a fungus, and shipments from Yap remain suspended following last week's typhoon.
