Royal Pain...a British Poll
Just saw on FoxNews that Britons don't want Prince Charles to ascend to the throne, but favor him stepping aside for his son, Prince William to succeed the aging Queen Elizabeth II...

Agree, there are very hard feelings for the way Charles treated his marriage to Diana. Diana was a very much beloved Princess, and so her son(s) is greatly admired. Charles? Over here in the US, we don't admire him much, can only imagine how they feel over there. Diana could do NO wrong! He shouldn't have married her in the first place, IMO. That's my 2 cents. Besides I hear her two boys are really caring people - she laid a great foundation there.

I believe the deciding factor is that Charles, even while married to Princess Diana, was (and is) carrying on an affair with Camilla whatever-Bowles, who is also a divorcee....IF Charles married her (which he won't), Crown law states that he would relinquish any title to the throne.
And there is a strong sentiment towards the outgoing, bright Prince William; clearly his mother's son, and Lord Spencer, Diana's brother, carries far more influence with him than does the Windsors.

One other thing that may have "rankled" the House of Windsor, AND the British people (who LIKE their "Royals") is the fact that Charles once stated that he would eliminate the Royal House in favor of a socialist-based Government (it was largely Charles' doing to break the hereditary membership in the House of Lords, BTW); but in the end, the decision rests with Queen Elizabeth II as to who she will name to reign over her Realm of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland....and she was NO friend to Diana.

Boy, that came thru loud and clear didn't it? I had a wonderful Mother-in-law (rest her soul, we lost her in 93) so I can only imagine what it was like having the Queen for a Mother-in-law. Gives you the shudders actually.....another reason to say - poor Diana. How could anyone find fault with Diana?
Remember after Diana died, it took the Queen, what 4 days, to speak to her people? Another slap in the face to those that loved Diana (just about everybody!).
