Garrett - the Towering Inferno is an old movie, made in 1974. But a classic disaster movie if there ever was one. OJ Simpson is even in it!!! A lot of big movie star names for back then too - Paul Newman, Steven McQueen. But they were long before your time. If you're interested about it, here's a link for you at the Internet Move Database site:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072308/

The movie was taken after two books, I've read both: The Tower by Richard Martin Stern and The Glass Inferno by Thomas N. Scortia. They're a good read also.

Yes, we watched Twister again last night. Hubby kept saying tell me when we have a cow.....LOL He almost missed it b/c I thought the cow flying thru the air came much later. And I forgot the actress that plays Judy on Still Standing was in Twister.

Garrett - I bought the Towering Inferno dirt cheap online a few months ago. I think thru Blockbuster. I want to say it was something like $8, but I had to pay shipping too. Bought another movie that time, but nothing like a disaster movie - Yours, Mine and Ours. I think both movies with shipping was around $20. Can't beat that.

Another good disaster movie was the Poseidon Adventure. There were a string of them back then. I like Earthquake too Linda. Victoria Principal (of later fame on Dallas) had a small part in it.

Twister...ah, all of those unforgettable lines...

"Red meat, we crave sustenance! Food....Food....FOOD....FOOD!!!"

"COW..." "I'm sorry, I gotta let you go, we got COWS!" "Another cow..." "Uh, I think that was the same one..."

..and let us not forget that giant-killer...

"The EXTREME! Extreme-extreme!"

The Golden Gate Bridge collapses!!! OMG! The cars tumbling off looked fake but from a distance it sure looked like the real thing. Makes you not want to cross a long bridge like that. I mumbled something like this to my husband - do you think people watching this in California are a little worried? He laughed, you mean sane people who know this is hyped up? LOL Okay, okay I get a little too wrapped up in disaster movies......LOL But I have to say if I did live out there, I'd be thinking, what if? But we've been hearing about the what if scenario for years. There was one phrase that kept being repeated, so much so that I wanted to run in here and just post that, nothing else. :-) Now I forget what the female geologist kept saying......what was it? It's driving me nuts!

Mary

PS - found a message board type post at the Internet Movie Database site for 10.5. An amateur geologist has posted a few times, in depth actually. I found his posts fascinating.....if you're into earthquakes, read his comments here (he posts under zackiedawg or something like that):

I agree Chad, too many freaking commercials. I understand this is may sweeps, but this is ridiculous.

Also, too much human drama and not enough science for me, but my dad was a seismologist, so I may be a bit biased.
