Just watched it and it was okay, as TV disaster movies go. Some parts believable, some not. Where to start.....geography changed just like that, with the main couple (seismotologists) lying nearby b/c one is injured and can't run fast enough? Hey I'm no expert, but wouldn't the ground they were lying upon be affected? And why is it that in nearly every diaster movie there is one character that steps forward to risk his life? I saw that one coming a mile away as soon as it was revealed the warhead could be manually set. You could read this guy's thoughts - okay, I've lost my wife, my kid hates me, I'm in charge here, why not me? What else......why didn't they evacuate people further east? FYI, if ever faced with a situation like this, keep going and go further, forget those tent cities!!!! LOL Nevada? Heck, shoot for Illinois!!!! Of course I'm not taking this seriously, but in reality California should be prepared for the 'big one'. I just hope they are!

It was a fun 4 hour ride and since I like disaster movies, I got into it. I didn't try to rationalize ~most~ of it.

Finally, three cheers for Beau Bridges for Pres - he had tears in his eyes! George who? LOL Just kidding....don't flame me....

First part was better than the second. As for not being realistic or possible in real life. We don't know enough about earthquakes to know whats possible or not. The Warheads bothered me though

off the Coast is called the Cascadia Subduction Zone where the Pacific Plate dives under the North American Plate-the Cascade Volcanoes from Lassen and Shasta north represent the inland manifestation of this dip slip fault zone which is quite deep then. There is very very stron archeological evidence as well as historical observations of a killer tsunami in Japan that a MM9.0 earthquake originated there in January 1700-since the normal repose time for big subduction zone events is on the order of 250-300 years...

During April 2004, 508 earthquakes were located in
the Yellowstone region. The largest shock to occur
during this period was a magnitude 2.7 earthquake
on April 17 at 1:22 AM MST, located about 8.8
miles northwest of Madison Junction, Wyoming.

A notable swarm of small earthquakes occurred April
12-23. These were located on the northwest side of
Yellowstone National Park and northwest of the
Yellowstone caldera. The events were generally small
and none were reported felt. The swarm included 465
earthquakes. Magnitudes ranged from -1.2 to 2.7, with
8 events greater than 2.0 magnitude. .

A light earthquake occurred at 10:25:13 AM (PDT) on Tuesday, May 4, 2004.
The magnitude 4.0 event occurred 10 km (6 miles) NNE (32 degrees) of Cayucos, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 3 km ( 2 miles).

This is NOT a show I'd watch again either! My family made fun of me for watching the second night after they'd watched the first night with me!

Who knows exactly what would happen if something of this magnitude DID happen?? Some of the special effects were pretty good......bridge collapsing, giant whirlpool........but I didn't like the way it jumped from character to character; each having stories of their own. Though I thought most actors did pretty well......(wasn't that whiney daughter annoying?)......it jumped back and forth too much.

Shows like this DO make one think however! The earthquake possibility has been a reality for many years. My Az. Sister moved from Pasadena 20 yrs. ago because of so many tremors.......I shared a couple there with her......and 3 years ago, we felt one right here in S.E. Mi.! Wish more people respected what the earh is capable of.........p

Petal - my family made fun of me too. And the night before they watched Twister with me, since nothing better was on. So when this 2 parter came on the heels of Twister, jokes were flying like crazy around here. "Here's Mom's latest disaster movie, you sure know how to pick 'em Mary" (hey I didn't produce/direct this movie!!!). Oh well, we all have our likes and dislikes. And on a cheesy level, I like disaster flicks! Sci fi ones too!!! Just not horror films, sorry, can't stomach them or sleep well after a scary movie. Yes, the teen daughter was a pain but her character reminded me exactly of the character she plays on 8 Simple Rules, Bridget, another teen that can be annoying at times. So I figured, well, she can sure play this part perfectly! That was sad that the Governor's assistant died, after you were hoping she'd have a happy future with her husband, go off into the sunset and start a family. One thing I found hard to believe was the young doctor finding his family, not once but twice, at the tent city! Now come on, there were thousands of people there! In real life this family would have been separated. Remember he went looking for his wife, she didn't go to the medic tent to find him. Little details like this bug me - very unrealistic. And his daughter was still holding her teddy bear at the end! Again, wouldn't she have dropped it?

I bought the Towering Inferno a few months ago and sat down to watch it one day. You should have heard the howls of laughter at my house - what kind of movie is THAT Mom.....groan, laugh, stomp, sigh, kids running from the room. Hey, I know how to clear the room huh? LOL

I watched it, but the science was cheesy, the human interest was cheesy, the realism was cheesy, and the effects were cheesy. In fact, if I wasn't naturally into disaster movies, I'd never have watched Part 2 even.

I'll probably watch this anyway.

NBC is re-airing the original tonight from 8-11pm ET and the sequel airs tomorrow night and Tuesday Night(9-11pm ET both nights). I absolutely loved the original and I will be watching.

The original was surprisingly huge in 2004... 19-20 million watched.

So, the movie that was on opposite the Desperate Housewives finale - was it the original movie or the sequel?

Aw heck, maybe I don't know to know. I have more shows that conclude this week! So many, so little time....

Well, if anyone has the scoop on this, please post it. Because I am confused! It appears that the actress who played Mary Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Sue Anderson is in the sequel.

It was the sequel tonight(the repeat was last night), and it concludes Tuesday Night from 9-11pm ET. I recorded it on the other VCR and will watch it tomorrow.

That was so bad it was really good. I love these types of movies... will defintely watch Part 2 tomorrow night.

I missed most of the sequel but caught enough to know they were trying to save Houston and keep the Gulf waters in the Gulf. I saw the end, with the pres sobbing in Mary Ingalls arms....oops, I mean Melissa Sue Anderson! So I take it the lower 48 just split in two?! Pretty unbelievable but I tuned in (when I had control of the remote!).

Had I realized this was a new movie, a sequel to the original I might have recorded the movie in it's entirety.

Does anyone know if the sequel will reair? Thanks.

That was interesting, but extremely unrealistic.

I don't know when it will air again, Part 1 didn't do well in the ratings so I doubt it does anytime soon.
