You shouldn't even think then write the above, unless you're scared by the replies... If this is the case, maybe the famous "storm2k" feeling is really lost.

Now ask the Iraquis how they feel: is it better now or under Saddam?
We??? are you american??? NO, furthermore...our actions may have been wrong to a certain extent but in NO WAY were they comparable to those of the terrorists!!

Hey Jonathan..I was going to say the same thing ("we") but I attributed it to the broken English.

I put "WE" (no mistakes) because our troops are there too, and hatred because friends of the American troops. WE are there, you asked the bill, here WE are...

And j, I understand where you're coming from, but I in no way condone what that female soldier did or the look of pleasure upon her face. It just sickens me. I always tell my daughters to take the high road when peers are bullying them. Don't play their games, don't play games at all, just hold your head up high and ignore it. I'm sorry, that's a terrible example perhaps, doesn't compare to war, but in this country, decency starts in the home. And needs to be practiced by all US citizens, private or in the military. If we sink to their level, what does that make us? One of them.

Don't flame me please for taking this stand. I rarely do with any political threads.

Mary

My belief as well... :)

well I respectfully ask then paolo that you don't include "us" in your "we" characterizations.

Furthermore....the confusion comes because this thread is about whether an apology is needed from OUR President on Arab TV, it has nothing to do with Italy, so I read and interpreted it the same way Jonathan did..I was scratching my head saying, "why is he saying we"???

Maybe you should stick to the other board you joined. Your hatred of America and our troops shines through once again. Miss Mary is well respected around here and I assure you she does not feel that way.

Oh I see now....note to self, read all replies here. I usually skip over Paolo's posts.....honest. Thanks Linda but he doesn't bother me. Just a puffed up Italian with strong opinions, trying to pit us all against eachother. We should all just walk away right now and agree to disagree. Back to ignoring you Paolo!

I must agree about having mixed emotions about it all.

I'm sure there are Iraqi citizens who were tortured or whose family members were tortured by Saddam's soldiers, who are now seeing these pictures and saying to themselves, "Ha! How's it feel now, buddy! Ya get what you deserve!"

But then again, I know that our guys are not supposed to treat POW's that way and they are putting themselves and the rest of their comrades in danger of serious retaliation. In addition, it only helps to breed more anti-American anger.

I don't think OUR president should apologize for it. He's as disgusted as most of us are. He should just make certain that those responsible are punished.

Furthermore, those Iraqi prisoners out to be thankful they're still alive.

And for the Snopes-fans out there --
Be aware that there are photos being circulated that are NOT Iraqi POW's and NOT our guys. I saw them on a website with an Arabic-sounding name that was linked on Snopes. The general consensus is that the photos are either Serbs torturing Muslims or some stupid screencaps from a really bad stuff movie or a handful of both.

Don't ask for the link. You can guess what's depicted (digitally blocked, of course).

Explain what happened, and what we are going to do to those responsible, YES; but apologize to the entire Arab world? NO...they would see that as a signal of "weakness" endemic to democracy, and thus exploit it.

Besides, nothing we can say or do will satisfy the "Arab world", other than pulling out of ALL Muslim countries, and destroying Israel FOR them...and that would only appease them for a while. They'd be back, attacking us even more furiously; thinking us soft, caving in to "righteous ji'ihadist" pressure, and vulnerable.

Miss Mary!!! I AGREE WITH YOU 100%!!

If only half the people in this nation, much less this world practiced what you preach this world would be a MUCH BETTER PLACE!!!!! And there would be far less of what we are debating here.
