Paolo....I am tired of your anti-American propoganda. The difference with us is we are openly debating and discussing what occured and those who acted so badly and stupidly will be treated harshly. I doubt though that their families will be raped in front of them and their bodies dipped in acid as would have occured during your friend, Saddam's hey-day!

The Arab world knows exactly how to exploit us....and this is yet another example. When our prisoners have been shown on TV...paraded before the world, it is done by masked men...have you noticed...THEIR captors are always masked!
The world doesn't even think of asking for an apology from Iraqis like those because they know they have no dignity or shame or character.
Unfortunately President Bush does take the high road...and he takes responsibility for the actions of a few. And this weighs heavily on all of us as Americans. I commend him for realizing the importance of integrity even in such moments of irrational behavior.
But war is not something you apologize for...it is something you regret having to do.
The decision to pursue this war on foreign soil will be followed by decisions to win it on our terms. We did not seek it, nor did we start it. Those in the world who prefer sticking their head in the desert sand will surely feel more and more alone as it unfolds in the weeks and months ahead.
We can all be angered and frustrated by the events of the day, but wishing it away will not make it so.
And so we become pro-active in carving out the future of the USA and the future world order. We need not apologize for any of it.

We didn't just slap them around; sodomy was involved. That's about as low as it gets.

No, sunnyday..."LOW" is when you cut prisoners while they are tied to a stake, then release intentionally-starved wild "big cats" on them.
"LOW" is throwing prisoners off of the roofs of tall buildings.
"LOW" is showing the world the dead, mutilated bodies of members of a US Army supply company, and laughing into the camera...while having sodomized an unconscious, disabled female POW for good measure.
"LOW" is hanging prisoners up with hooks shoved through their skin, then raping their wives and daughters in front of the haplesss men.
"LOW" is dragging non-combatant aid workers out of their vehicles, killing them and hanging their lifeless corpses from a bridge.
"WE should apologize"? I want to hear it from the perpetrators of THESE acts, first.

Okay, wait...I think you're confusing the Serbian pics with the US/Iraqi pics. The first ones (Serbs) did show sexual acts. The latter did not.
Unless I've misunderstood something, there was no sexual activity depicted. The POW's were nude and posed in humiliating positions, but not in actual acts.
Or have I not see the whole story?

What about Daniel Pearl's decapitation and the video released to the world by Al Jazeera showing this happening to him? Where was your outrage then? And you say that is "Low as it gets" because of the slapping around of a prisoner? Come on!!

This outrage we all have about what has been done to our own people by the COWARDS is well and good. WE SHOULD BE OUTRAGED!!
HOWEVER, NONE OF WHAT THE COWARDS HAS DONE TO OTHERS CAN OR SHOULD BE USED AS JUSTIFICATION FOR ANY OF THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY OUR OWN TROOPS AGAINST THE POWS!!!! WE ARE AMERICANS AND AMERICANS HOLD THEIR HEADS HIGH BECAUSE WE ARE PROUD OF WHAT WE DO!!!! WHAT I HAVE SEEN MAKES ME BOW MY HEAD IN SHAME AND IN PRAYER FOR ALL INVOLVED ON BOTH SIDES!!!

*shivers*
Ugh, I saw that video. P***ed me off to no end!
(Edited to clarify that my post was in reply to Linda's and that the video that I was irked about seeing was the Danny Pearl one.)

I just saw that sick pictures and wish I hadn't. What's the big obsession of the soldiers with sex? Nobody should do something so gross, no matter what. What really gets me is that women are involved, smiling for the camera as if they had done something good. What a sad situation. I know that some of you dislike the fact that I said what our soldiers did was wrong, but that's the way it is. No self-respecting person, man or woman, would do such a thing. Granted, what the Iraqis did to our people is beyond terrible, but it doesn't justify turning around and doing such such obscene things.

Duck, you're better off not seeing them. Unclothed men are being forced to do humiliaitng sexual things while some of our soldiers, men and women, grin and point for the camera. It is sick. In addition, there are allegations of sodomy.

Again, let me ask, are you seeing the pictures of OUR guys??? Or are you seeing the pictures that they claim are our guys, but that are in fact old pictures of Serbians torturing Muslims during the Slobadan Milosevic reign?
Like I said before, I saw a handful of pictures on a link that was posted on Snopes. The link was to a middle eastern site with pics that they said were our guys torturing their guys. But most Snopesers had attributed those pics to the Serbians, based on the looks of the military vehicles in the background and the green, not sandy yellow-brown, BDU's they were wearing. And some of them just looked like pics from a really bad stuff movie with characters in uniform.
I'm not saying the pics that I have seen (those ones that we KNOW are our guys) aren't bad -- they are horrible. But they're not pornographic or sexual.

No, it was our people. Their names were given, also. Some were privates, some sergeants, etc. They were no doubt Americans, certainly not any other nationality.

If all that happened was slapping the Iraqi soldiers around, why did Bush apologize? Why did Rumsfeld apologize for something so minor? Those two men must think quite a bit went on in order for them to issue apologies.

Read this and figured I'd post it...
THE MEDIA'S THIRST FOR TORTURE
As bad as the pictures taken in the Abu Ghraib prison are, leave it to the Bush-hating media to seize on the opportunity to actually make them out to be worse than they are (if that's possible.) What you're starting to hear and read in print is the use of the 'T' word...torture. However, up to this point, there's no evidence of torture. Humiliation, yes. Torture, no. Humiliation isn't torture. All we have so far is just humiliating photos. So what's the agenda here?
It's plain and simple...many in the left-wing media are very anti-American. They want to see America weakened. They're using this as proof that the war was wrong, and to insinuate that all our soldiers are raping, pillaging and torturing the people of Iraq. The Coalition is doing nothing of the sort. As it stands now, you have a handful of disgraceful idiots who have severely damaged the American image, not the entire 150,000 force in Iraq. CNN ran a report comparing the abuse photos to the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, where hundreds were murdered. Is CNN saying that Abu Ghraib is another My Lai? It seems so. Sorry CNN...it's not even close. But you don't let the facts get into the way of an agenda, do you?
Oh..and one note about the "Arab outrage:" It's quite interesting how some in the world are shocked at the sight of prisoners being humiliated in photos, but had no problem dancing in the street when 3,000 Americans were slaughtered by Islamic terrorists on 9/11. Those responsible for taking these photos and mistreating the prisoners will be brought to justice. Why wasn't there the same concern when Saddam was raping, torturing and murdering people in that very same prison?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Whatever the media says or doesn't say, the pictures are there to see.

Amazing what the media chooses to show us and what they choose not too. Don't be blinded too much by the liberal media!!sunnyday wrote:A picture is worth a thousand words. Whatever the media says or doesn't say, the pictures are there to see.
