A touching George Bush moment....

President Bush recently visited the Cincinnati area. Here's a nice article about just one encounter he had while here:

I remember her mother's story well - Wendy Faulkner wasn't comfortable in sky scrapers. But she had a meeting at the WTC, on September 11th. Sadly, she didn't make it out. Local articles about her story soon after 9-11, depicted a woman who avoided tall buildings at all costs. But she couldn't avoid that monthly meeting, so she had to go. The terror Wendy must have felt when she realized she wasn't going to make it.....just one story from 9-11. Just wanted to share all of this with Storm2K.

Our President carries a tremendous amount of weight on his shoulders every day...probably none so heavy as that of 9/11. It shows in the photo.

Those who accuse President Bush of being a man driven by motivations left over from his father's years in office need only to take a look here and see where his commitment really comes from.

Locally this story really touched many Cincinnatians. Because we remember well how the young girl's mother lost her life on 9/11. My area lost a total of 4 people, connected to the Tri-State area (OH/KY/IN) in the 9/11 tragedy. But this girl's mother's story really touched me back then. She was petrified of sky scrapers. And I was very nervous going up to the inside observation deck at the WTC, in 1993. Looking down at street level, with your chin touching the glass window was eeary. Looking out over the skyline was breathtaking, I'll grant you that. But if I had to work day in day out in a sky scraper I think I'd look for another job. Or not even consider taking one in the first place. And this poor woman dreaded the monthly TWC meetings. That was one of the first comments her husband made soon after 9/11. He was so torn up imagining the terror his wife went thru. Trapped. So I've just never forgotten this story.

A local talk show host featured this story and said how touched he was personally that our President just reached out to this young girl. Pres Bush just stopped dead in his tracks and asked how she was doing. The host said he thinks it's sad that we've seemed to move so far forward that the tragedy of 9/11 seems to have been forgotten. I haven't forgotten that terrible day and I never will. But the ache has subsided a bit. I think people are still so traumatized by that event that they try very hard to get back to normal. That's different from forgetting. Wish I had called into his show now. He thinks we as a nation have forgotten 9/11. I disagree with that opinion.
