Yard Sale!

We're having one next Saturday. We have about 10 years worth of stuff accumulated and it's time. Does anyone have any good yard sale stories to tell?

No story inparticular, but the last one I did have was scheduled the Saturday after Princess Diana died. :( I had a television on outside to watch the news. My brother and I both sold our electric organs.

You'll be amazed what people will buy. Good luck with it! I need to have another one someday too.

A couple years ago my family tried a garage sale.. We made about a dollar the entire weekend.. It rained all weekend

Just that I once picked up an "EXC, unissued" 7.65 Carcano M38 carbine for $25 at one, years ago.

Wish I stilll owned it... :(

Good luck with your yard sale! I had mine last weekend and made a nice little profit. I took a poll of the people coming and asked whether they had read my ad in the local paper or had just seen my signs. A good majority came from my ad, so if you're going to have one, I recommend placing an ad in the local paper. Good luck Ed.

I remember when we had one at my house when i was little, and my parents let me pick the price for my toys when people wanted to buy them. It was so funny because at that time i thought $1 was alot of money so i was selling all my stuff for about $0.50. I don't think my dad was all that happy, but oh well...t'was fun!

Yard sales......called tag sales in New England I've heard! Anyway, our street has had a few organized ones. Agree with Jen here, an ad really helps draw attention. Then a few signs directing people to it, at intersections close to your street and at the top of your street. The first community sale we had was in early May. Weather turned very, very cold. On a whim, I decided to make a huge pot of coffee in our 30 cup maker. I had some xmas hot cups and even had half and half on hand. I wished I had time to buy Dunkin' Donutholes. But oh well, the coffee sure sold well! So much so that neighbors started coming down for my coffee, they wondered where customers were getting it. LOL I think I even had some frozen beans I ground up, it did taste pretty darn good. So feed your customers well, just a tip from me, that is if the weather is lousy!

Hope you did well on your sale Ed. My husband can't stand yard sales and wants nothing to do with it when we participate. He thinks they're a waste of time and energy! He'd rather just take the items to the Goodwill.

One down side to a street wide sale is your kids will come home with who knows what! So unwanted toys seem to just get passed around neighbors. And even if your kid doesn't have the money for a huge stuffed animal, Mrs. Smith down the street is only too happy to part with it, for little Bobby.....yes my kids have brought home awful things. LOL
