Anyone watching Frasier??

#1 Postby wx247 » Thu May 13, 2004 8:40 pm

I love this show!!! I am said that it is going off the air. How will NBC replace it and Friends. That will be impossible.

I taped it and will watch tomorrow (I'm watching ER right now and taping it too!). Our daughter had her Orchestra concert tonight. It went over an hour! Such a crazy night.....I had both VCR's going, for Survivor, Frasier (both hours), and ER.

Cheated and watched the last 5 minutes of Survivor. Yeah, Rupert won!!!

Garrett - I don't know what NBC will do without Friends and Frasier. As I was programming all these shows tonight I thought back to one week ago - I was so sad when Friends went off the air for good. So sad. I'll get over it in time. And then be sad all over again next Fall! And next Thanksgiving too - we always had a Friends Turkey dinner show!!!! But I am looking forward to Joey.

You've missed out. I don't usually watch shows religiously, but I have watched Frasier almost consistently since the beginning.

Chad - I've read several articles on tvguide.com that stated Kelsey Grammer or his producers pitched the idea of another spin off from Frasier, to NBC. The critics over at tvguide said enough is enough, but I'm paraphrasing. If I have time I'll try to find those links.

A spin off featuring Niles wouldn't be a bad idea, IMHO. While I think there is still mileage left in Frasier, I think it's time to allow other hopefully quality shows to emerge. Who know what show will be the next Friends or Frasier! Could take a few years or possibly a decade before we see that chemistry again, but I'm not giving up hope either it will happen.

PS - Chad, found one:

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: Kelsey Grammer apparently isn't letting Frasier go without a fight. Last month, Paramount — with Grammer's blessing — allegedly pitched NBC a new series chronicling the next phase of Frasier's life, Variety reports. NBC opted against continuing the franchise, leaving producers free to A) shop the project elsewhere, B) quit while they're ahead or C) feel silly for even suggesting such a thing. Let's pray they went with B or C.

LOL! I mentioned this while we were watching Frasier. I said, "Boy, it sounds like they're leaving it open for a spin-off" -- especially when Fraz said something to the rest of them about not knowing how it would work out (referring to his new job in San Francisco). However, it won't be San Francisco, will it? As they were landing, the pilot said they were in Chicago (where Frasier's girlfriend went).

Darn it! As I was typing this, KRPC News was giving away an autographed Frasier script. I was caller #5 (long-distance, no less!) and they needed caller #10. Surprised I got through at all. :)

ER -- Yay! Abby passed her boards. No doubt there. Finally found out who was in the line of gunfire, although we still don't know if anyone got shot. Personally, if Jing-Mei goes, I'm not going to lose any sleep. She's just a fictional character -- of course, I don't wish death on anyone IRL, besides the obvious al-Qaeda scum and such. I just never really liked her character.

Now I just have to make it through the Law & Order finales.

Yay! Rupert is a millionaire! Wish I could have seen his face. :)

It was a good finale. Very funny as usual and they brought back alot of people.

I haven't watched it faithfully the last few years, but I would tune in on occassion to catch up. It was a great show and I will miss it.

I thought it was one of the best series finales I have seen. I hated the Cheers one.

Refresh my memory Garrett - how did Cheers end again? I vaguely recall Sam turning out the lights and closing the door, muttering last call or goodnight?

That's how it ended Miss Mary - I believe that Sam was shutting the bar down for good. It may have been sold, but I don't remember.

270. One for the Road
gs: Shelley Long (Diane Chambers) Tom Berenger (Don Santry) Mike Ditka (Himself) Kim Alexis (Herself) Mark Harelik (Reed Manchester) Anthony Heald (Kevin) Mitchell Lichtenstein (Waiter) Jackie Swanson (Kelly Boyd) Paul Willson (Paul Krapence) Tim Cunningham (Tim) Steve Giannelli (Steve) Alan Koss (Alan) Rick Berman ((uncredited))

Whilst watching the National Cable Ace Awards, the gang sees ex-waitress Diane Chambers winning the award for best writing in a mini-series. This leads to Sam calling Diane to congratulate her, and to find out that she is married and has children. Sam tells her Diane that he too has a wife and kids, and invites Diane and her husband to visit them.

Sam strongly believes Diane is lying and becomes really shocked when she walks into Cheers the following day to meet Mrs Malone. Meanwhile Rebecca's boyfriend Don proposes to her and she accidently says no, ends up heartbroken and agrees to play Sam's wife to fool Diane.

Sam and Rebecca have dinner with Diane and her husband, Reed Manchester. During the dinner Don arrives and proposes to her again, and this time she manages to say yes! They leave the dinner, and Sam thinks he must look like a fool. Then Diane's husband turns out to be a fake when *his* husband Kevin appears! Now alone, Sam and Diane reminisce about the good old times, and end up back together. Diane asks Sam to move to California with her.

Sam and Diane are all ready to take off to California. But whilst waiting for their delayed flight, they realise they weren't meant to be together. They finally say goodbye to each other and Diane returns to California. Sam returns to the bar to discuss the future with the gang. He realizes that he cannot leave his one love - Cheers.

As the regulars go home, Sam starts closing up the bar. A man comes to the door, but Sam doesn't let him in, saying, "Sorry, we're closed," before heading into the back room.

b: 20-May-1993 pc: 273/4/5 w: Glen Charles & Les Charles d: James Burrows

NOTE: This episode was the fourth highest rated series finale of all time.
This is the third time that Sam and Diane have broken up an engagement.
The picture of Geronimo that Sam straightens in the last scene used to hang in Nicholas Colasanto's dressing room. That was Cheers' way of acknowleging him in the last episode.
Interesting fact. In the first scene of the first episode, Sam walks into the bar from the back room, and in the last scene of the last episode, he walks into the back room from the bar.
This 90 minute long episode airs as 3 half hour episodes in syndication.
This episode is preceded by "Last Call! A Cheers Celebration", a retrospective of the series that also documents the minutes before the recording of the last episode.
Norm is the last of the regulars to leave the bar: he exchanges a few words with Sam and in going away, he leaves some beer in his glass!
John Hill (the owner of Melville´s) does not appear in the final episode. This is particularly strange since Sam and Diane have dinner at Melville´s.
Mark Harelik would later go on to play the role of Davis Lynch on the NBC sitcom "Wings".
Director James Burrows received a 1993 Emmy nomination for his work on this episode.

Also, from imdb.com -- James Burrows was the one who walked up and knocked on the door.

Furthermore, the Cheers studio was the same one used for Frasier. :)

The ending with the person walking up to the bar and then him saying "We're closed" was so anticlimatic. Frasier ended in such a way that was wonderful IMHO. I never saw it coming!!!
