Close call for my family!!

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Mon May 17, 2004 7:15 am

As Me and my mom were heading to church, we got pulled over by Police for expired inspection & license tags, and no insurance. My mom just pulled over, shut the engine off, got out her driver's ID, handed over to the cops, and told the truth about her rough times. A minute after that, my mom was ready to be handed a big ticket, luckily, the officer gave us a break and let us be on our way, the officer told us that my mom needed to get the tags & insurance done ASAP, which is what my mom will be doing this week.

She is very lucky he let her slide. Every once in a while you will run up on that type of policeman.

Hope better times are ahead for you and your Mom, Stooge. :D

Yes, you and she were lucky....now you need to make sure that somehow you get those tags and insurance updated this week.

The officer was also a gentleman.

I'm glad that the police officer was sympathetic to your Mom. I hope that she is able to get everything straightened out as soon as possible!

She was lucky!

For future reference though, in the state of Texas, if it's been less than 60 days since the expiration of the tags and new ones are acquired within 10 days of an issued citation, the violator only has to pay $10 instead of the full fine.

Honesty is always the best and when he asked where you were going and your Mom said you were going th church - well that probably helped some too. He was definitely a very nice office. Hope you get everything in order soon.

Wow! That was definately a lucky break... I hope things get better for her soon Stooge.

Once I forgot to renew my tags because of personal difficulties and I got pulled over 8 months later for an expired tag. In Florida, after six months it is a felony offense and the cop gave me a ticket and said I would have to go to court.

At the time I insisted I had renewed my tag. I honestly thought I did. It wasn't until the next day I realized I hadn't by going through my checkbook and records.....Anyway, before he turned in the ticket he must have checked the other box on it where I only had to pay $45.00 to get it straightened out. :)

Hope things work out for you and your mother Stooge!

Ya know, most officers are very caring believe it or not. When I'm on duty working traffic, we take each stop on a case by case situation...take all things into consideration before issuing a citation. In your mothers case, I would have done the same thing!
