Then I thought hey maybe they're cutting so they're not blasted by the sudden outbreak? Not a dumb idea....so I just finished up cutting again. Twice in one week. At least I'm caught up now and those little buggers can pop at any minute now. It was creepy cutting grass though, gnats and flying insects everywhere. I kept thinking - I'm going to be hit in the leg any sec now! LOL

Steve - yes we have 3 grad parties coming up as I mentioned. It will be very interesting. But you're close to Cheviot, so you could have tons of cicadas. Over here, it's not supposed to be bad. I'll keep you posted!!!

Now when our dog wants to go out, we say go find some cicadas and report back. LOL

If we get them, I don't think I'll be wanting her to really find them.

We have next door neighbors who hire out every single household repair job you can think of. A bee's nest? They wanted to hire an exterminator! Until one older gentleman on our street told them just wait until dusk and spray it. Just one example to give you. The husband cuts their lawn but that is his only household chore. I do not live on a wealthy street either! They have gardeners weed for them, mulch, you name it. Plant annuals even! Weekly maids, cleaning lady, etc. Wife was from a very wealthy family growing up....anyway we're expecting this family to just FLIP OUT if we get cicadas bad over here. We're expecting a fleet of exterminator's to show up any minute if that happens! They have their yard blasted with chemicals too, 6 times a year. Thick yellow liquid that once gave my daughter hives while playing over there. Yes by now that lawn and house should be glowing from all the chemicals they pour into it. Okay I'll stop. I'll let you all know if the cicadas hit over here and then if this family goes crazy over it all!!! The wife can't handle stress well, although they have 3 children. Ages 5 to 13. Honestly, I expect to see her leave town if this gets bad. She'll need to check into a retreat type facility to calm down!

Well, it hasn't stopped RAINING, here, yet. I'm
sure the ground will be SO nice and soft for those
critters to move right on UP, when it does stop!

What about the rest of you - any cicada sightings?

Contrary to what local news reported on Thursday, I don't know of anyone who's seen a cicada yet with their own eyes! And like you Annette, it rained here starting on Friday, thru the night and into today. Now's it's stopped. I walked to look for them - nothing! I saw a live report from Maryland on the Today show last Friday. Cicadas were crawling all over trees there, clumped together on tree branches. Just hanging there. So if we're going to get them, I know now I'll know we have them! A local talk show claimed it all hype, we won't get any cicadas. They had people calling in comparing this to what we call here in Cincinnati, when mere inches of snowfall is predicted and Cincinnatians immediately run to the grocery stores, 'what death'!!! Oh no white death is coming....run for your lives. Listening to this talk show was pretty funny.

What I find ironic is May 21st has been the target date for all of them to emerge. That's my daughter's 14th birthday so I remembed that date! And correct me if I'm wrong, but my calendar states it's only May 15! People here seem to want them now! Crazy huh?

I think we'll get them full force in areas of Cincinnati still. Saw the CBC special aired Thursday evening and it was confirmed - Cincinnati is Ground Zero in this plague! Thought that might have been local hype but I think it's true now.

I'll let you all know if I witness an honest to goodness cicada!

Annette - yup, better look for a new dish to make!!! LOL Up until now the media's been telling us they are harmless. I'm sure this guy thought they were...ought oh! That's just the way I react to a severe bee sting. Imagine telling the ER staff you ate cicadas!!! I'm sure that ER staff is still chuckling over it, after of course saving his life. This is a scene straight of the show, ER!

Jeremy - saw this on the local news this morning. And newly emerged cicadas, on the Channel 12's outside patio, on nearby trees. Checked my trees, nothing! I still say my area will get off easy.

Yep I saw the same thing you did! Same station too as I was running late for school...you might be right as FOX 19 said a few weeks back some east of town will be spared...some examples stated below...

But Campbell County Kentucky, Silver Grove, Withamsville, Alexandria, and New Richmond are examples of places that may only get a fly-by of a few cicadas compared to the ground zero areas.

The rain has stopped, but, none here, yet.
So far, the closest sighting in Tennessee has
been over in East Tennessee. Maybe they'll
STAY there!

I saw my first 2004 Cicada! At a park near my home. It's an old park, trees have been left undisturbed since the last invasion. I probably saw at least 50-100. We have an old strip of woods behind our house, that bordered between two old farms (our street was one of them). Still no cicadas there, but I am surprised. We haven't cleared out our woods, as some neighbors have (and one in particular has hinted thru the years he wishes I would clear mine out, keep wishing dude) so I am surprised we don't have any cicadas back there yet.

I think I was having auditory hallucinations,
sitting in traffic, this evening, coming home.
Next to a wooded area in south Columbia, I
was stopped at a red light...I could almost
SWEAR that I heard them singing, in the trees!

Still no actual sightings of the critters, though!
Jeremy, I hope the one on your windowsill don't
invite his extended family to stick around!
