No way would I show my kids either - there's too many other things out there that are being shown to them and making them "grow ou" faster than I believe necessary. I don't believe that you need to see everything to understand the horror of it all. I chose not to watchit myself because I didn't want to get sick. However, I am angry and very upset that it occurred. If that bothers you Derek, then quite frankly, I don't give a darn!

On my way to work this morning the Monsters were talking about the beheading of Nick Berg and one of them said.... "we might be over there putting panties on their heads, but at least they still have their heads"

I agree with allowing the video to be shown......as far as the kids viewing it issue.... I would have to assume that in your house you have control over the tv and what the kids watch. (I'm not talking about older kids here...but the under 12 crowd.)
The showing of the video should be accompanied with appropriate content warnings, and shown at an appropriate time. It is the parents decision as to whether the kids view it or not.

Now....we all know that if a kid wants to view this, they are going to , and probably already have on the internet. Such is life these days and there's not a hell of a lot we can do about it. Deny them internet access??? Fine...but little Joey down the street will have it. You can only do the best you can within your own walls and sometimes that is not enough. I personally would not allow my child to watch it until I was sure he understood why this was happening to this poor man. For him to understand he would have to be involved on a daily basis, with what is going on with the War on Terror. Todays kids are a lot more involved then I ever was as a youth. All I knew was Vietnam was bad and we had to give everybody the peace sign.

I think there are millions of people in this country that SHOULD see it, and frankly NEED to see it. It's an eye opener for sure, and frankly, the edited version does not hit home like the full video.

Don't forget...we all witnessed live on TV the murder of thousands of innocent Americans and watched the footage over and over and over for months follwing 911. I felt at that time, as I do now, that viewing the carnage was imperative to rising above the numbing tolerance we have as Americans, to violence and gore, and recognizing this act as a defining moment in my life...one that I would never ever forget.

I disagree Derrek and j...We as parents should shelter our young ones from as much of the gore of inhumanity as possible....they are taking so much "garbage in", as it stands now...We follow the war, in home schooling, it's our current event, right? But to actually physically see the gruesome beheading isn't neccsary for our children. They get the seriousness by just reading about it...This stuff was going on when we were kids too, and we didn't have the great "information highway" that we do today, and I think we turned out better for it.

Did anyone have to see images of Jeffrey Dahmer's fridge or a video of his crimes to know he was a sick and deranged man?

it sounds like you mis-understood me fur, I said it should be "allowed", not the same as Dereks' "required viewing", comment.

I equate this to allowing a youth to watch "Schindler's list". I watched the movie as an adult (only because it wasn't out when I was a youth)... But...as a parent I would probably have given the ok for my son or daughter to watch this movie.

Why?? ....because even as an adult...prior to seeing this movie, I never did fully understand the horror of the holocaust. Sure..I had heard all about it, been schooled, but the bottom line is I never did fully comprehend the horror of it all till I actually witness the gruesome re-enactments. From that day on, I had a whole new perspective on the evil of A. Hitler.

These days, war is a tough sell. Without the attack of Pearl Harbor, WW11 might have been a much tougher sell to the American public than it was. As far as Germany goes, most Americans had no idea that millions of innocent men, woman and children were being gassed and incinerated like trash.

There are too many people out there that don't fully understand terrorism, because it perhaps hasn't directly effected them, ot at least they don't think it has. If they were to watch this, they might think differently, and perhaps stand behind our president and his determination to fight it.

I agree with you fur about the trash out there or "garbage in" as you call it. But this is different...this isn't a movie, or a video game, or Ludicrus singing about how many white ho's he has in his possie.

I would choose to "allow" my informed child to view this.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be. How can anyone joke about such a tragedy? I would hate to live around nuts like that. And, I can't even begin to fathom a teacher who would even think of showing that video to her students. :grr:

I would like to see the video, but I can't bring myself to clicking the link. I know it's graphic and I really don't need to see that to know how evil the terrorists are.

I know. I was just pointing out that some people can understand the seriousness of something by reading about it and not seeing it, if they so choose.
