2012 Possible Olympic sites reduced to 5

#1 Postby Brent » Tue May 18, 2004 8:55 am

New York, London, Paris, Moscow, and Madrid are now the possibilties. The winner will be announced in July 2005 in Singapore. Athens of course has the Summer Olympics this year, the 2006 Winter Olympics are in Italy, the 2008 Summer Olympics are in Beijing, China, and the 2010 Winter Olympics are in Vancouver, British Columbia. It's unlikely New York will get it in 2012 due to it being in North America in 2010. Paris and London are favored strongest.

It would be nice to have them come to New York, but I wouldn't mind them in London or Paris either.

Moscow and Madrid - no!

I'm partial to Atlanta as I live 75 miles from there and we went to a soccer game during it for my birthday. The Olympic bombing happened early on July 27, 2 1/2 days after we had been to the Olympics. I hope to go again someday.

I just noticed Europe is having the Olympics back-to-back(Athens and Italy), so maybe NYC is a possibility. I'd love to see it in London or Paris though. I've always wanted to visit both cities and this would give me an excuse, LOL

Moscow or Madrid? Yuck.

Sorry to damp the party for New York but Vancouver will host the winter Oylimpics in 2010 and it will be difficult for New York because Committee doesn't choose 2 cities from the same hemisphere so close 2 years apart.I say Paris will get it.

I somewhat agree, but Europe has the Olympics this year and in 2006(Athens and Torino, Italy). Those two cities are closer together than Vancouver and NYC.

No flag waving wherever it may be! Everyone must wear black and not allow any emotion to show.

The winners will stand at three different levels, but all be dressed identically. Black flags will wave and a generic version of "We Are The Champions" will play.

Only after everyone goes home will the real winners be announced.

Sorry for the cynicism. I suspect that all five of those cities would love to host the Olympics, but all five are surely fearful of the responsiblity as well.

Sad world we live in these days.

i think the olympics, with all the security concerns now are just too expensive and not worth it. if new york gets it, i am afraid taxpayers will get stuck with a big price tag. let paris have it
