wow! whatta night here in Central IL!!! long story short for those not living in IL to know what happened, we had a series of severe storms roll across the region bearing supercell nature and prompting numerous severe t-storm as well as tornado warnings...
i headed out around 7:00 PM to try and intercept a cell with strong rotation that was moving to the E just to the S of Macon county where i live. i got as far S as the town of Macon IL (14 miles) before the heavy rain made it too dangerous to continue further S to seek any rotation. parking just N of Elwin IL, i (along with probably everyone else in this area) witnessed the most breathtaking double arc rainbow. it was here i decided to camp out and get some shots. what happens later was simply a 1 in a million capture...
the rainbow (facing SE, this isn't even the best capture!)

the money shot of the day... a single tower went up and eclipsed the sun! (facing due W)

same location facing NE, under the anvil looking at towering cumulonimbus up towards Lincoln IL

mammatus as seen from Wyckles Road approx. 3 miles away (facing NE)

more development on the towers firing up towards Lincoln IL (facing NNE)

back side of the big storm scoozing along to the S of us as the sun was setting (facing W)

these pics aren't even the best as i am at work trying to cope with a crappy monitor. got vids as well, stay tuned!
(i can't wait to see the reports from all of you guys (and gals) in Central IL!)
