URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 275
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
110 PM CDT MON MAY 24 2004

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

EASTERN KANSAS
WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI

EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 110 PM UNTIL 1000
PM CDT.

...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION...

DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL TO 4 INCHES IN DIAMETER...
THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 80 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE
POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 115 STATUTE MILES EAST AND
WEST OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF SAINT JOSEPH
MISSOURI TO 40 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF EMPORIA KANSAS.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 271...WW 272...WW 273...WW
274...

DISCUSSION...EXPLOSIVE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED IN THE
NEXT FEW HOURS OVER EASTERN KS...ALONG AND AHEAD OF SURFACE DRYLINE.
EXTREME INSTABILITY AND VERY STRONG VERTICAL WIND PROFILES INDICATE
THE POTENTIAL FOR TORNADIC SUPERCELLS. VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING
TORNADOES APPEAR POSSIBLE WITH STORMS IN THIS AREA.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 4 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
GUSTS TO 70 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550.
MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 27035.

West central Missouri is certainly in the path, so yes. Definitely a destructive day at least similar to if not worse than may 4th, 2003.

No, it does not.

This tornado watch goes roughly from Emporia, KS eastward to around Clinton, MO. This is about 2 hours north of me.
