What source of information you follow the most during season

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sun May 30, 2004 8:06 am

The question is what source of information you follow the most during hurricane season.

I always go to the NHC for all the official information. And of course here at Storm2k a very close second as we have here all the information available including the Storm2k forecast team. :)

National Hurricane Center is first. I will sit here when a storm is ongoing and refresh the page until the advisory is out. :) Then after that, I watch TWC to see what they say.

I chose the NHC as well although when i can steal the remote and watch tv for 5 min, I like to see what the local met here says and of course the board here...I haven't cared to watch TWC tropical updates since John Hope-no one else on there can do the tropics as good IMHO.

Like many friends above I also chose the National Hurricane Center since in tropical interests they are the boss. The Weather Channel and all our local TV Meteorologists have also to follow what the NHC has to say. Storm2k Hurricane Hollow forum is just a good way for us to discuss our opinions and facts, but it doesn't go behond. At the end everyone has to pay attention what the NHC says although we are in agreement or not.

"Other sites" because that includes a favorite local guy, Storm 2k, The NHC, Joe Bastardi, FLHURRICANE.COM, Hurricane City and about 5 dozen other web sites.

Storm2k is number one for me. I find information that is never given in TWOs, and I also learn more every day. Thanks everyone at Storm2k!

NHC & this board

#11 Postby Windsong » Sun May 30, 2004 8:14 pm

Looking forward to spending the season with all you nice people. I will try not to lurk so much this year for a change and maybe take part in more discussion.

Thanks for a great place to be for the season!

Storm 2k because I spend the most time here. NHC I rely on for "official" information but most of my time is spent watching what you guys think.

Not exactly the best course for a scientist to take. I cannot and do not follow any source of info, even our own, blindly. Instead, I have to keep and open mind to the changing conditions. When ther eis a threat, usually I have to make the final call (as was the case with Isabel, declaring it wa sno threat to Miami, well in advance and sending out the alarm for family in the Baltimore area) and that call cannot be biased upon any outside info at all

Ditto..

When something is of interest then..

NHC first... after that it's whatever links I already have that display the best graphics and real time data which changes with location..

Great thing about this board is I am always adding new links through the season.. :D

I voted NHC first, second is myself and third is a local met. I've been through enough hurricanes to know when it is time to high tail it....MGC

I use NHC as a basis for all I do as they are the "official" source. However, since I write some of the tropical updates here at S2K I use, like Derek, many different sources to do my own final analysis. I will point out that almost every source for data available, or at least many of the best are available right here at STORM2K.
