Tornado Warning includes Indianapolis 500 Stadium!
Dr. Greg Forbes just said "it's a meteorologist's worst nightmare to have a tornado hit a stadium". There's a tornado warning right now that currently includes the Indianapolis Stadium area!

Its a meteorologist's worst nightmare to have a tornado affect ANY area w/ a population density like that.

you know, we all LOVE to see this type of tornado outbreak b/c it excites us, but when the lives of many are at stake, its no longer considered "fun" or "exciting", its then that we must understand that this is the true power of nature, and that it can do whatever it wants to whatever, whenever.

Agreed. And for dam good reason. Unlike a hurricane with this there just is not enough time to get everyone out of harms way with so many people there and the very unpredictable nature of tornadoes makes it all the worse.

I agree it's a double edged sword. We weather enthusiasts want action but no death or damage. We can't control when severe weather happens but when it does we will watch it and learn from it. Thats what we doUSAwx1 wrote:you know, we all LOVE to see this type of tornado outbreak b/c it excites us, but when the lives of many are at stake, its no longer considered "fun" or "exciting", its then that we must understand that this is the true power of nature, and that it can do whatever it wants to whatever, whenever.

Won't miss Indianapolis though.
I hope that it will miss the stadium, but there are SO MANY OTHER supercells to the NW and SW of the city.
They did say that there was a funnel on the ground with this cell that's headed towards Indianapolis. I'm not familiar with where the stadium is located in relation to the city itself.

and learn from it we have done....consider how far we have come since the first tornado warning was issued on MAR 20, 1948 from Tinker AFB.
We now have software such as GEMPAK/AWIPS which allows us to visualize information given to us by NWP guidance, in order to determine when/where an outbreak is going to occur and how severe it might be based on various different synoptic scale patterns and environemental paramaters.
