URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 381
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
320 PM CDT WED JUN 2 2004

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

EXTREME SOUTHEAST COLORADO
EXTREME SOUTHWEST KANSAS
WESTERN OKLAHOMA AND THE PANHANDLE
THE TEXAS PANHANDLE

EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 320 PM UNTIL
1000 PM CDT.

...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION...

DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL TO 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER...
THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 80 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE
POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 85 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST
OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF LIBERAL KANSAS TO 75
MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF AMARILLO TEXAS.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 378...WW 379...WW 380...

DISCUSSION...OUTFLOW BOUNDARY FROM OK BOW ECHO/CONVECTION EXTENDS
NW-SE FROM THE OK PANHANDLE INTO NWRN OK. AIR MASS ACROSS THE TX
PANHANDLE IS VERY UNSTABLE WITH MLCAPE BETWEEN 2500 TO 4000 J/KG.
ORIENTATION OF THE BOUNDARY WILL ALSO ENHANCE CONVERGENCE NEXT
SEVERAL HOURS. DEEP LAYER SHEAR IS AROUND 60 KT WITH BRN SHEAR
NUMBERS AROUND 70 M2/S2 INDICATING THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED LARGE
TORNADOES MOSTLY IN THE TX PANHANDLE.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 3 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
GUSTS TO 70 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.
MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 31030.

Kind of interesting that there is no moderate risk for that area either, but yet the SPC Day 1 discussion mentions a couple "significant tornadoes".

On a side note: I remember that test statement from last December. That was hilarious! :lol: :lol:

I remember that, too!!! LOL

In addition, I wondered about the threat being slight, too. Maybe because it is/was conditional.
