I'm shocked to see the NRL put an invest up for something so small and climatologically unfavorable. Did greatone get a promotion?

Interesting and Surprising
Quite unusual to see an early season invest off the African Coast. It looks like a small area of thunderstorms.

BWAAHHAHAHAAHAHA!
Actually I don't know how disorganized it is. QS is an old one and only got half of it. I'm having trouble loading the loop at NRL.
Sadly the PSU ship and buoy site is defunct, looked at the crappy Oceanweather map and there really aren't enough reports to get a sense of anything.
I'm anxiously awaiting the first person to proclaim that "It can't develop because there isn't enough coriolis at 8 North."

I can make out a weak surface circulation when you put it in loop. I also saw an outflow boundary. Something to watch anyway.

Scatt, like Derecho said only shows half but suggests a POSSIBLE attempt at a LLCC forming around 8N, 20W, as does the visible loop at NRL.
At least it is something to follow
AS TO THE PROMOTION Derecho's first comment said it all!!!!
OHD, r u studying to be a stand up comic when you go to Miami?

its gonna crash into south america!!!!!
LOL, After so many years watching tropical systems, I am shocked to see people year after year making those same comments.
Anything above 5 north is fair game, and 99.999% of the time if a system develops it will not hit south america. Only tropical waves do that or a tropical cyclone once very 100 years or so.

I don't see anything official that triggered the invest...no model runs...no metwatch status anywhere...and the 11:30 TWO gives the all clear.
Could be that there are transmission problems and all of this is actually happening and I'm just not seeing it.
Otherwise...what gives with the invest? Either there's a real invest in the works and it is being COMPLETELY neglected in the TWO...or there is no legit invest.

I'm glad Derecho hit the Navy page as I wasn't going to today.
No, as of 1PM EDT the tropicals haven't initialized on the Invest. Even the typically TD-happy UKMET and GFS had nothing but RA there in the last runs. I'll try running it again tonight.
Don't know what to add, Mike, except possibly USN has fleet activity INVOF the Invest so it's there for them. Just a guess on my part.
