I think Florida will get hit this year lol.. I know I say that every year.. But every passing year means our luck runs closer and closer to being out..

I will say a Cat 2 or Cat 3 as well...

Yes I also say it every year...

We just missed here in Central Florida with Gabrielle in 2001. she was a max. tropical storm when she came onshore.

She did some pretty good damage for a 70 mph TS

And I agree with you, I think a Cat 3-4 is much more likely than normal this year. However, I think that I'll be telling you at least once this season that "no, this storm ISN'T going to hit Florida!"

This is nothing more than -removed-, no one will correctly forecast a hurricane impact a month or months before. That's impossible. Only possible in -removed-.

FL is due, but there are many areas that are due.

There's been earlier threads asking people where people think a hurricane will hit this year. Many voiced "their opinion" that Florida will be hit. I tend to agree but only because it's long overdue.

These scenarios do sound interesting for possible SE coastal landfalls, but one aspect that really bothers me is the possibility of a ridge over the SE. Some long range outlooks (including AccuWeather) are hinting on a possible stronger than normal ridge over the SE this summer. IF this is the case through mid September (I'm only saying IF), then many systems would either be shunted well south of the SE US, or recurve out to sea. Then again, this might not be the case, or if it is through July, this pattern may break in August/September once again, making lanfalling possibilities more likely later in the season.

Any comments or thoughts are welcome !

I fail to see how saying that you think Florida is likely to get hit this year is "-removed-"

I don't feel that it's "-removed-" at all, there SEVERAL STRONG indications that Florida is really under the gun this year, and not just from your general run of the mill depression or TS but a MAJOR Hurricane.

the use of analogs, analysis of various climate factors are both VERY reliable ways to determine which areas are at risk for a major landfall during the tropical season. This year, (and i know i do not stand alone when i say this) it's MOST likely to be Florida.

Now, does that mean it's absolutely going to happen and we are 100% certain about it, NO, (as seasonal forecasting is not a perfect science) but what we have seen does alert us to the fact that there is an INCREASED likelihood of FL taking a major hit THIS SEASON.

So, In other Words....while this is not a perfect science, it is FAR from -removed-.
