An extremely sad turn of events it was, but i think we all can take solace in the fact that he is No longer suffering, and in a MUCH better place.
he was truly an inspirational leader, not just for the republican party but for all Americans during his 8 years in office, and his record speaks for it's self, from ending the arms race with the Soviets to the re-unification of Germany after the fall of the Berlin wall, and putting the final lid on communism in Europe. This world is alot better of a place now, thanks to his accomplishments.
I consider him to be one of our nations BEST presidents yet, and it is my humble opinion that we will not see another for a long time to come.

On November 4, 1980 Ronald Wilson Reagan becomes the 40th President of the United States of America.
At age 69, the oldest man ever elected to the presidency, Ronald Reagan wins the candidacy by a landslide receiving 525 electoral votes, almost twice the 270 needed to win, and the most of any presidential candidate in US history. On the other hand, President Carter just received 40 votes.

You know, this just breaks my heart.
It's got nothing to do with politics.
Ya'll remember, I'm a neurology nurse. We see
a lot of Alzheimer's patients, in the office.
It starts out with the noted memory loss -
forgetting an appointment, forgetting the time...
...then, it escalates into greater things, like
forgetting family members names, and, in President
Reagan's case, who you are - or who you were.
It's SO heartbeaking to watch the person escalate
into dementia, and, see the effects on family
members. You remember how they were when
first diagnosed, then, it breaks your heart to see
the decline in mentality. Imagine a parent not
knowing who you are, after raising you and loving
you, all of your life.
I got home from work, and, saw this thread, and,
I've been using that new box of Kleenex, since.
It doesn't matter how I vote.
My heart goes out to the Reagan family, this
evening.

Miss Mary
Annette - you have me now reaching for the tissues. I think you said what a lot of us feel. But you see the devastation firsthand. I was trying my best to explain who President Reagan was to my youngest daughter, Laura. I'm not into politics either and I usually vote for a different party, but tonight I think all political parties in this country are united in mourning.
My prayers and thoughts are with the Reagan family tonight too.

After watching first hand the effects of Alzheimers on my aunt, who passed away two weeks ago, a say a silent prayer of relief for his family and for him as well. It is a tortured way to go, but maybe less so for someone with it than the caretakers and family involved. He was such a gift to our country. As Streetsoldier said, well done thy good and faithful servant.
