TAMPA - Gil Thelen, the publisher and president of The Tampa Tribune, apologized for the newspaper's error in publishing an editorial that said the Tampa Bay Lightning lost the Stanley Cup final.
``It's a great day for Tampa and not such a good one for the Tribune,'' Thelen said during a morning news conference in the breezeway of the Tribune's offices.
Thelen said the Tribune had prepared two editorials prior to Monday night's Game 7: one to be published if the Tampa Bay Lightning won, the other if it lost. The Lightning won the game 2 to 1.
But for ``reasons we don't understand now,'' he said, the wrong editorial was published. The newspaper is investigating how the error occurred. A corrected editorial will be published in Wednesday's Tribune, he said. The corrected editorial was published on TBO.com Tuesday morning.
Tribune editor Frank Denton said the editorial page was proofed and approved. He said they are investigating how the wrong editorial ended up published.
