Recon found winds around 30mph at the maximum...however, I still say this is no TD. There's no consolidated LLC...it's more of a broad trough than anything. A trough won't cut it for TD classification, and I'll be extremely surprised if this is TD1 in the next advisory.

All the plane has found is strong S-SSW winds east of a broad low pressure area in those heavy squalls. West of that, there's only light and variable winds for 150 miles or more. Definitely NOT a TD at this time. That upper low over the lower TX coast is imparting very high S-SW shear across the system now. Development looks unlikely as this shear probably will not subside.

There appears to be more spin to the ULL over us than I see with this system in the GOM. It appears to me that it is now simply a very elongated low with tons of convection and some very strong squalls, but nothing that warrants classification. In the last sat pics I saw it appeared to me any LLCC there was has disappated. Definitley not a TD at this time.

Yes...as some of us have been trying to point out all morning. It looked fair this morning...but now (hopefully) people will realize why the NHC doesn't name every TD that fits a definition.

Great post...now if people can just understand WHY the NHC waits. We'd have 50 TD's a year if we jumped the gun every time.

On the lastest TWD the NHC is talking about send another recon out tomorrow if they have to.

I hate to say but the system is not going nowere in terms are strength.

I also want to know is the system still going to be over water tomorrow if they are planning on sending another recon out there tomorrow.

In all likelihood they'll cancel it.

Hurricane Summary POSTED: June 14, 2004 4:59 p.m.

The area of disturbed weather in the Gulf of Mexico was investigated by Air Force Recon today. Based on the information, the system was not upgraded to a tropical depression despite reports of winds on the east side of 30 kts. The system will move north into Louisiana by Tuesday. The system will be a heavy rain maker for the Gulf Coast and parts of the Southeast the next couple of days.

Well, it's pretty much a lost cause !!
