I'm home!

#1 Postby therock1811 » Mon Jun 14, 2004 5:05 pm

Well I just got home today after a week long cruise through the GOM and W Caribbean...it was cool! On Sunday, after embarking the ship, we had to do a lifeboat drill (mandated I guess by the US Dept. of Health and Public Safety?). Then Monday we were at sea all day long. Tuesday we hit the shores of Grand Cayman, Wednesday we were in Costa Maya, MX, Thursday we hit Cozumel (which BTW I see we have someone from there now on here :)), and then Friday we were in Belize. I will say one thing about Belize...some ppl were likely wondering, why here? Most of what is worth seeing is an hour's drive outside of the city of -you guessed it- Belize. Other than that and the fact it was so doggone hot and humid (what'd I expect, 70 degrees all day every day LOL?), we had a great time! Now, though, it's great to be home, even after arriving home at 4am...can you say ouch?

Jeremy - so glad your trip went well! Sounds great, except for the car ride home. That's always the hard part - everyone is crabby and just wanting to get home. Did you miss the cicadas? LOL

Jeremy,

There was a feature story by CBS Sunday Morning reporter Bill Geist about the Cincinnati cicadas...complete w/ a meal of cicada/garlic mashed potatoes and cicada "crouton" tossed salad! LOL

 No I didn't miss them...matter of fact I'm happy that they're gone...don't need to worry about the pool for another few years...I think I missed that story...partly because the first Sunday I was gone we were driving down, and the second they had us all going through the process of debarking (getting off the ship).

Tom, I was gone from Saturday night, June 5 to very early this past Monday...BTW I was within 16 miles of your home at one point on I-75...and within about 20 miles of a couple other members too...

Dennis, it was expensive, but it's the best time you will EVER have!

As far as crabbiness...well, that wasn't the problem coming back as much as trying to sleep in the van...some free advice...no matter how spacious your van/car may seem to be, when you cram your whole family (in my case 7 people) into the car, it is NEVER that big...anyway, I've slept in the last two nights so I'm doing ok...BTW, I did get pics...and will share them...finally should have my comp back the next couple days...which I was told it'd be in yesterday...grrr...

Jeremy - picture a family of four, two parents/two kids ages 4 and 7, crammed into a small BMW sedan, driving 18 from Quebec, Canada to Cincinnati! Yes, that's what we did years ago. We stayed at various Canadian cities on that vacation, 10 days long. Great time but by the time we checked out of my last hotel, we all just wanted to get home. I think somewhere around midnight the kids and I wanted a hotel in the worst way, but we were only 3 hours from home at that point. Hubby said let's just push on. When we got home, I could barely straighten up! We all went right to bed, and unpacked the next day. Slept until noon. Later the next day we all told my husband - never again, we are staying overnight at an inexpensive hotel, even if we're so homesick. So I can relate. We were all so tired from driving in that car for 18 hours, the 2 or 3 meals we took just didn't count.

I guess that's worse! We stopped for one meal (an IHOP just about 15 miles south of Atlanta), but then we stopped 3 times for gas and numerous rr breaks...and a couple stops for things like soda and food (one of those at 2am...now who would want to eat anything at 2am besides of course the person driving at that hour?...all I wanted was sleep LOL...I did eat at that stop and then drifted off for about 5 minutes...). BTW the drive back took about 17 hours and 15 minutes...
