It also works by doing alt + 167. You have to use the number keys on the right, not the top.

I am unable to get the degree symbol or any of those characters ever since I got my cable modem. I either get the previous window (or website) I was on or another window (or website) I have open at the same time as the site I am on [obviously this one in this case].
