Army unveils new BDU...

#1 Postby streetsoldier » Wed Jun 16, 2004 3:42 pm

The US Army, for the first time since 1981, is preparing to resupply all its soldiers with a new Battle-Dress Uniform (BDU).

The new model will have a stand-and-fall "mandarin" collar, VELCRO closures rather than buttons, and will be made with a digital grey-green-light brown all-terrain pattern camouflage system. (I've seen this new camo, and it's VERY light to the eye...seems grey at first glance...more, my experience with VELCRO closures is NOT good at all...)

Boots will be replaced with "no shine" tan combat models for both cold and hot-weather uses.

BONUS...be prepared for a HUGE surplus of old "woodland" camos and black boots within the next 18 months. :D

Further, the USAF is also looking for its own distinctive service "work-utility" uniform...no style or patterns have been agreed upon, but they are looking at both the Army and USMC summer-desert digital patterns, with perhaps a few changes in the construction.

I noticed that those old "OD" patches and nametapes seem to take away some of the advantages...

Does anyone know who I can contact to "respectfully submit" an idea that the patches/tapes concerned should be crafted from the same digital pattern with grey or light brown embroidery?

Oh, I almost forgot; Marine digital BDUs are the most popular sellers, beating out even the "fashion" designs. One mil-spec supplier has some (not official issue) that they are selling at discount. :?:

I'm not completely sure if this is who to contact, but it's the closest I could find without hooking you up with a recruiter.
