Remembering Tropical Storm Agnes

Tropical Storm Agnes was one of the costliest storms of all time. Agnes made landfall as a Cat 1 hurricane June 20, 1972 across the Florida Panhandle. Agnes weakened to a tropical depression as it moved across eastern North Carolina. However, it strengthened into a tropical storm off the mid-Atlantic coast and then tracked north across northeastern New Jersey and southeastern New York State. Agnes then moved southwest across north-central Pennsylvania.

Agnes caused millions of dollars of damage across parts of the Northeast. Pennsylvania was the hardest hit with over 2.3 billion dollars in damage; an impressive figure for the early 70s.

I remember Agnes as it gave us a reason to ride the rapids on a flooded stream. We though it was fun but if my kids tried it now....UGH.
