Dems using felons
Any one read the AP story on the democrats using felons to registar voters?
Just what we need, sex offendres going door to door. Republicans want to put people in jail for doing terrible things to people.
Democrats want them to come to your house.

Why not?
In 2000, the Dems gave homeless people cigarettes to go and vote in Detroit and Milwaukee; they kept the polls open in St. Louis for three hours after mandatory closing until a Federal three-judge panel ordered the polls closed (they counted those votes anyway), registered people under names they found in obituaries, etc.
And these are examples of just how far they will go to insure a victory in 2004.

People that are released from prison actually DO HAVE RIGHTS restored to them, including voting. Alot of them will probably end up being back in jail and never should've been allowed to leave to begin with. Until that situation is fixed, criminals will be released into society again. However, alot that are released are rehabilitated thus allowed to live a normal life which includes getting a job and voting.

Not to get off topic here..but if we spent more of our resources punishing criminals instead of worrying about restoring the rights they forfeited crime just MIGHT drop. and the best rehabilitation for criminals who will be integrated back into society is showing them..thru incarceration and other sanctions..that crime is WRONG. I believe certain persons convicted of NON violent crimes should be allowed to EARN some of their civil rights back AFTER they have demonstrated for a period of time that they are capable of being responsible law abiding citizens. And Chad..this is why I would NEVER vote for Kerry.

I agree.

Most people who are in prison are not there for their first offense. Most people in prison have had many brushes with the law, often starting as a juvenile. Many are beyond rehabilitation. I guess we have to allow for the possibility of rehabilitation, but that sure leaves opportunitys for repeat offenders to "play" the system.
There should be a point where incorrigible persons are just locked up for good.

I couldn't agree more! I'm always one for giving a person a second chance, but unfortunately we've seen too many instances where the system has been "played" and another tragedy strikes.

Kudos for refraining from stereotypes and blanket generalizations.

Just some food for thought. When I was 15 years old I was stabbed and my sister was raped by my mothers abusive boyfriend. We were under HRS's supervision at the time. That is what DCF used to be called. Anyway he got out after 3 years and I found out and I was furious. Me and a friend of mine went over there. Luckily..GOD was with me and when the GUN was shot into his house nobody was hurt. Two points if the system worked all the time he would have been punished and would have served his time. Second, I never would have been put in the position to have to "Take the law into my own hands" Anyone who claims they wouldn't have done the same thing if it was their sister is a Liar IMHO... He put my family through hell. I was charged with Attempted Murder and due to the circumstaces.. it was reduced to Shooting into an occupied dwelling. I was given 1 years house arrest and 5 years probation..which I completed successfully. Another point..the baliff..who finger printed me after my court hearing..told me not to miss next time..this was the exact same baliff that years before presided over Jim Gorneys Child Abuse Trial. He is dead now..so I don't mind using his name!! For all intents and purposes..I have a felony on my record. IT's all about the circumstances sometimes. Some Felons should be able to vote.

You entitlted to your opinion. The facts are the our precious system FAILED me and my sister and my mother for that matter. My emotions where driven by the FACT my sister was raped and nothing was done about it. I don't expect you to understand. I pray you never have to go through anything like that.streetsoldier wrote:I don't make the laws, but I once enforced them...and IF you commit a crime stated as a felony (especially one involving use of a deadly weapon), you have to live with the consequences. Period.

Rainband, I can't say I would have done anything different than you, given the circumstances. The ONLY reason I'm glad you missed is so you wouldn't be charged with something more serious. I'm sorry you and your family had to experience something so terrible. But like the old saying goes, what comes around goes around. He'll get his, if you know what I mean.
