Jeopardy champ passes 600K.. barely survives

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Fri Jun 25, 2004 6:33 pm

Ken Jennings survived to return on Monday after wagering nearly all his money on a correct Final Jeopardy question..

The question regarded a hospital in 1901 being built in Hawaii to deal with Leprosy.

Jennings was given quite a game by Matt {his 2nd challenger}

Jennings finished with 48.000 plus but that was only enough to beat Matt but a little over 400 bucks..

I'll tell you I was a little scared seeing when Ken's challenger wagered nearly all his $ and answered correctly.

Ken's challenger also made a huge gamble and it paid off when he went for a true daily double in Round 2 and got it {he had over 11,000 dollars before the daily double}

Ken's 18 day total is now $601,760 and by the way.. 1 of you asked earlier in his run if he may have been married. If you watched last night you know during the brief little contestant chats.. Ken is happily married. lol

How much longer will Ken survive..? Next week may tell

I was VERY scared. I thought when that guy risked $20,000 he had won, because I've never seen Ken wager over 6 or 7 thousand. :eek:

Go Ken!! When Ken's challenger made it a true daily double in the 2nd round, he said "I have nothing to lose." He knew that was his only chance as he had a little over $11,000 and that gave him over $22,000 and Ken had over $24,000. Interesting stuff...if you're a Jeopardy fan. ;)

Yes Kelly.. I am a true Jeopardy fan.. I've been watching since I was about 3 {so Mom tells me lol}

Anyway.. When Matt risked a true daily double.. the only thing I said was "you idiot" because I thought he'd miss it for sure lol..

Glad Ken won though.. That was TOO close! :eek:

I sort of wished Matt won... Ken has won enough, and it is getting annoying. You already know who is going to win, and it getting a little old. After like 5 games, they shouldn't be able to keep on going. It just isn't fair for the other players. Matt did an excellent job, especially with risking all of his money. Oh well..... maybe some genius will outsmart Ken...

Yeah, I'm starting to get tired of Ken. Perhaps with all his money he could buy himself a personality.

Because until last night, no one has even given Ken much a run for his money ...

So...how'd he do yesterday? I forgot to tape it.

(Edit -- nevermind, I found it on http://www.tvgameshows.net/ )

Jennings Goes for Number 20 Tuesday
Ken Jennings went to the barber before this week's series of Jeopardy! episodes were taped. A closer cut did not result in a closer shave Monday night for Jennings, despite his lowest winning total to date.
The Salt Lake City phenomenon captured his 19th consecutive victory, defeating former radio quiz show host Lori Fountain and Anaheim's Michael Magdalena.
Jennings' $21,000 finish, left over after a $7,000 wager for a non-answer in Final Jeopardy!, gave him a cumulative total of $622,760, still fourth on the all-time syndication winnings list.
The software engineer and film buff had the edge off the top with the category of Cinema as he reeled off four of the first five answers to take a $2,200 lead. However, Magdalena rallied to take a $600 lead shortly after the first commercial break.
Jennings came back to take the lead for good on the category of Gone Tomorrow? He moved to a $2,400 lead with his first Daily Double (category: Luxembourg) when he knew Luxembourg joined with Belgium and The Netherlands to form a customs union in the 1940s.
At the midbreak, Jennings had $7,800 with Magdalena trailing at $4,200 and Fountain jumping to $3,600 with a late rally.
In Double Jeopardy!, Jennings was held to 14 of 30 correct answers but had no misses and took both Daily Doubles, his final one earning $3,200 on the game's final answer on the category of Main Street USA: your feelings may run deep on historic Main Street in this city, home of Oklahoma State University. Correct question: what is Stillwater? That sent Jennings to a game-clinching $28,000 with Fountain his closest challenger at $9,200.
All three players were stumped on the Book Titles finale: "I Am the Rose of Sharon" and "When You Know Your Name, You Should Hang Onto It" are from two different books titled this. Fountain and Magdalena both missed with: what is "The Grapes of Wrath?" Jennings offered nothing and dropped to $21,000.
Correct title: what is "Song of Solomon?" Jennings' average daily winnings slipped back to $32,777 with the victory.
A win Tuesday will make Jennings only the eleventh 20-game winner in television history. The others: Thom McKee (43) of Tic Tac Dough; Lou Retram (26), Password (ABC version); Teddy Nadler (25), The $64,000 Question and The $64,000 Challenge; Ruth Horwich (22), Concentration (including a 20-game undefeated championship); Terri Lee Coffin and Neddie Williams (20), Concentration; and John Hatten, Leland Yung and the family pair of Liz and Pat McCarthy (20), Blockbusters.
