What did Cheney say to Senator Leahy?

#1 Postby Brent » Thu Jun 24, 2004 10:24 pm

Tuesday:

The incident occurred on Tuesday in a terse discussion between the two that touched on politics, religion and money, with Cheney finally telling Leahy to "f--- off" or "go f--- yourself," the aides said.

Maybe I am gonna stir up the pot, but I hate the "f" word. Cheney needs his mouth washed out. So does Leahy probably.

In fact...a couple of months ago on one of the news channels there was a synopsis on the shortcomings of former Presidents...their wanderings from their wives, their use of vulgarities and slang, and even some of their "disgusting" habits. Some of the more popular Presidents were better suited for bars than oval offices according to the report. I'll see if I can find a transcript of it.

On the other hand Garrett, I'm offended by those who use that word in common conversation, too. You are not alone in detesting it!

Very good...you are correct! Not making excuses for Cheney here but I see a major difference between the way in which Cheney used it vs the way(s) in wwhich johnfingkerry used it.

Cheney got po'd and in the heat of the moment, like many of us, let a swear word slip out. It was directed at an attacking Democrat, so we have to cut him a little slack on this.

Kerry on the other hand, used this matter-of-factly while pandering to the MTV crowd. It was tasteless, and he has absolutely no excuse for what he did.

I think using the "f" word is tasteless no matter what context the word is being used in, but that is JMHO.

However, I do agree, that Cheney's is more excusable if there is such a thing.

Actually, when you consider Cheney's past medical history, I think it's more like Dennis Hastert is a heartbeat away from being Vice-President.

Profanity in the course of adjectival useage can be clever. In general the use of it other than on a very limited basis is from people who are unable to articulate themselves in any other manner.
Leahy is a disgrace, his Nightline comments about the USA was in the best light in the middle east the day after 9/11 are borderline perverse, I guess we should suffer catastrophic attacks more freqeuntly to be the most beloved nation on earth.
He is another pacifist weakling and the bad word that was used on him is mostly what his line of thinking would cause to happen to the USA.

I'm more offended by someone taking the Lord's name in vane than I am the "F" word.

IMO, there is no excuse, pure and simple, for anyone in public office to use this word.

And according to Linda Vester, you need to watch the Neal Cavuto interview tonight where Neal asks the VP about his choice of words.

This reminds me of a time when I was asked to mediate between a man who wanted to see his son for Christmas, and the father-in-law and the man's wife.

This guy was a recovering alcoholic, and was not present; they came (wife and father) with a "transcript" from a phone call which only displayed what the man-in-question said (pretty ugly stuff)...but did NOT show what might have prompted him to speak in such a manner.

Besides which, this "tap transcript" had NO judicial addendum or warrant number (which means it was obtained and "sanitized" illegally), and for those reasons I questioned its validity, and told the two that I would contact the police about it..

He got to see his son.

Yeah, what Weather53 said.

An occasional "f bomb" in the heat of the moment doesn't bother me as much as people who need to diversify their vocabulary.

I liked that line in the Wizard of Oz, when Auntie Em said to the mean neighbor lady (the witch in Dorothy's dream) something to the effect that she had been waiting a long time to tell her what she thought of her, but "being a good christian woman - I can't." She could have just called her a rotten ****er, but that woudn't have had the same effect.

He said:

"You _ bad, _ bad little _ Senator."

Cheney made a visit to Lincoln, Ne last week, and the whole thing caused quite a stir around here. He is orginally from Lincoln, NE (not sure that is something I want to admit, but that is my opinion). Jeff Fortenberry invited him here for a campaign breaskfeast. When it was all said and done, the bill for the visit was $32,000 dollars, which was promptly submitted to the City of Lincoln to pay.

Now the Mayor about had an fit, due to the fact that Fortenburry and the Republican party said this was not a political visit, but a homecoming for him. Now the issue at hand, the Mayor (democrat) nor anyone from the Democratic Party was invited. The Governor (republican) was invited to the breakfeast. This sounds pretty political to me. He raised $150,000 for Fortenberry. The breakfeast was $250 a plate and $2000 to have your picture taken with him (I would not have paid $2 myself.)

I don't feel that the City (my taxes) should have to pay for this. From the impression I get from most of the political threads on this board, I am probably going to be disagreed with.
