1. None of the above. It appears that Supertyphoon Angela in 1995 was a good bit stronger than Tip. Problem is, with recon cancelled in the Pacific, and the Dvorak scale modified since Tip, it's impossible to get a Dvorak number higher than Tip now. See this AMS abstract presented at the May AMS conference.
http://ams.confex.com/ams/pdfpapers/75465.pdf

(however, for your quiz, the strongest listed was Tip)

2. Typhoon Tracy hit Darwin

3. 1933 was the most active Atlantic season with 21 storms.

4. ST = 130kts = 150 mph

5. Iniki hit Hawaii

6. Tricky question with the word "affected". Was going to say Florida, but NC has been "affected" by more hurricanes. Many glancing blows, but NC is "affected" with a glancing blow. you DID NOT say landfalls.

7. John
8. Just a guess -- 250,000

9. Millibars

10. Allison - caused $5 billion damage in Houston alone.

Ah, then was #8 incorrect? It's the only one I wasn't too sure of.

However, just poked around and found this:

Bangladesh is also in the Guinness World Record for these following horrifing events:
Date Cause Casualties
November 13th, 1970 Cyclone 300,000 Death

Here's another bit of info from another page:
Massive cyclone kills:300,000 in 1970

Khulna, Chittagong Bangladesh

http://www.basedn.freeserve.co.uk/cyclone.htm

And another saying 300,000:
1970 November 12-13th., East Pakistan: cyclone and tidal waves killed 200,000 and another 100,000 were resported missing
http://www.disaster-management.net/cyclone.htm

So if #8 was incorrect, then my guess of 250,000 was closer than the next highest number of 500,000

hmm. I am finding both.

A 100-mph tropical cyclone hit the densely populated Ganges Delta region of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh)s on November 13, 1970, which killed an estimated 500,000 people (this is regarded as the 20th century's worst cyclone disaster
source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane

cyclones in Bangladesh sometimes result in a large number of human lives being lost. 500,000 persons were killed by a 1970 cyclone
source http://www.colorado.edu/hazards/qr/qr90.html

"The death toll in the infamous Bangladesh Cyclone of 1970 has had
several estimates, some wildly speculative, but it seems certain that at
least 300,000 people died from the associated storm tide [surge] in the
low-lying deltas." (Holland 1993)
source http://www.lmd.jussieu.fr/faqs/meteorol ... faq/part1/

Im finding both 300 thousnad and 500 thousand. So I guess the correct answer is "a heck of a lot"

300 -500 thousand deaths is just unbelivable.
