The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.

The handover is complete. I hope this gives the Iraqui people the confidence to know that Iraq belongs to them and that they will now use the opportunity to help turn in terrorists and others who were determined to make sure that this historic day didn't come to pass.

That is a collosal idea - Hand it over early. Surprise the bad guys and score points with everyone. Lets hope that the Iraquis are up to the task.

Yep, I saw that on MSNBC this morning. It was an interesting move. I wonder though if the Iraqis are ready for it?

The reason the handover occurred today was to thwart terrorism. Great idea by all involved!

Now that the Iraqis have their power returned...let's hope that can really handle those Al Qaeda cells...saw this AM while eating a Big Breakfast at a McDonald's McCafe...a Raleigh News & Observer headline...Captors threaten to behead a Marine! :grr:

I just read that Eric. It was reported that he was lured away from his marine camp. I just find that hard to believe because they also captured a driver. Bunch of barbarians!

We will see how this works out. I too think it was a BRILLIANT idea!! Even the COWARDS had said there will be coordinated attacks to thwart the handover. Now they have missed it!!!! I still imagine they will attack but I also hope that now that the Iraqis have control that their own will begin to turn in the COWARDS that continue to disrupt the process the US set in motion.

How the new leadership handles the first major terrorist attack will be key in this transfer of power.
