Gee thanks john... Bio is mainly review right now... things that I know already due to the Env Science major! I also have an independent study of calc II... I have that right now, also, but I'm understanding what we are covering (knock on wood!) *knock, knock*

I'm happy right now... I found out that I am able to do an independent study on the affects of the May-June rainfall on NE Wisconsin. FYI... the Fox River in Berlin crested on Friday at 16.21 feet.... 3 feet ABOVE flood stage! Because my meteorology professor is the president of the packerland NWS Chapter, he is present the idea that I do a Presentation on my findings! That means towards the end of the fall semester, I have to present my study to the mets and chapter members... fun, fun, fun

I'm just a little shaken by the tornado that hit 15 minutes from my mom's house... The clouds were rotating so fiercly that I thought the tornado was going to fall on our neighborhood.

Little Chute tornado was rated as a F1. Damage was everywhere!

"Severe thunderstorms rolled through the Fox Valley Wednesday night, spawning a tornado that touched down near Waupaca, Kaukauna and Little Chute, leaving a trail of destruction." http://www.wfrv.com

Hi everyone!!!

It seems that the front porch is not very active this summer. I wonder if it is because everyone is so busy or you don't like my lemonade.

Anyways... I encourage everyone to make an effort (including myself) to get to the front porch more often. This is one of the greatest threads of all time. Let's treat it that way!!! :)

You are so right, Garrett! This has always been a great place to catch up with our fellow wx freaks while enjoying the nice summer breeze on the porch and homemade lemonade. I've noticed over time folks are more inclined to start a new topic when posting personal updates and stuff. Hope we can get the porch hopping again!

I've been offline for about 3 weeks. Drove down to Tampa with the kids to visit family. On the way back, drove straight through (14 hrs) ... that's only because there were absolutely no rooms available in the Nashville area that whole weekend due to a huge concert. Grabbed some coffee and made it home by 1:30am.

Have more family coming to visit tomorrow, so I really should be cleaning out the spare bedroom right now. Nah, I'd rather be here. :)

Have a great day porchers!

Hi Donna! Welcome home. We've driven from Tampa straight thru to Cincinnati a lot. It's not an easy drive! Can sympathize there. I'm sure you were worn out but glad to be in your own bed when you woke the next morning? That's what my husband is always telling the kids and I - let's push on and sleep in our own beds tonight. He misses our waterbed, LOL.

Sounds as if your summer is a busy one. We have relatives in the Tampa area visiting my father-in-law right now (Indian Rocks Beach to be exact). Small world huh?

We go on vacation soon, to a state/area we've never seen - Emerald Isle, NC. Looking forward to getting away.

Hi's to all!

Jeremy - especially that stretch thru Atlanta! I counted the lanes in one direction once, in the widest area - 7! Double that, north/south, and that's 14 lanes! Not to mention on/off ramps. Another stretch I don't care for is the Jelico 'mountain' in TN. All uphill, and you'd better have a full tank before you hit that stretch. Coming down you have semi's on your tail, going 85+MPH!

Contrast this drive to and from Destin, FL. Mostly I 65, instead of I 75. A completely different way to get to the panhandle of Florida. It was a pleasant change from that I 75 drive we used to take to Tampa.

Yup, getting through GA is the bear! It seems to go so fast when you zip through KY and then through TN (both very short routes from N to S). Then...*yawn*...the neverending state of Georgia, til you finally get to FL. It's the same way with MS when I go from TX to KY -- l-o-n-g.

Until You've Driven

from Texarkana to El Paso in Texas, or I-5 from LA to Red Bluff, one has no idea of what a long drive is-or boring in the case of the former and the latter from one end of the Central Valley to another.

That stretch through ATL is ok...but the Jellico Mtn. - that's another story! Then again, FL is longer than GA....

Thing that surprised me on my first drive to Tampa - once you get off I 75 and go west, you think oh we're so close. Wrong! It takes forever to get to the beaches. So much traffic, light after light. Seems to take hours. For subsequent trips I didn't get my hopes up. If I wasn't driving, I'd nap. That was a boring part of the FL trip. To think you're so close and then to have that tedious part to get thru before you ever saw the Gulf(I-4?, forget the actual routes, it's even slow going after you cross the bridge over Tampa Bay).

Illinois is Extremely Boring (N-S route) I've had to drive that a few times.... by the middle of the drive (which we thought was the end) we (UWGB Habitat) wanted to rename the southern half of the state! We were that bored with the drive.

I would not know, I took 275 around the north side of Tampa...thing that can be really boring in some of these states is some exits are 5-10 miles apart! That makes for a long drive...especially if you've been there before and know EXACTLY what you're gonna see!
