Just witnessed a car accident!!!

#1 Postby therock1811 » Thu Jul 01, 2004 5:30 pm

Yeah you read right...I was about 1 block from the interstate (I-75/71) on US 42 here in Florence......I turned around just in time to see a gold car (don't know exactly what kind, make, model, etc.) come down US 42 and slam into a silver Toyota Camry that was turning onto the highway! The impact of the two cars colliding made a horrific sound, and reminded me of the accident I was in in April...:( I don't need to tell you my first reaction, I called 911 and reported it and then went over and gave my best description to the officer who pulled up as I was on the phone with 911...I'm in a state of shock at the moment as to what happened today and am praying that the people involved are okay...:(

I know the feeling(well sorta do). I was riding on a school bus home one afternoon in 9th grade and the guy(who is about 63) cut off this other vehicle and caused it to wreck and slam into the wall of a ditch. I watched the guy in the car climb out through a small opening in the window(it was down just a little bit) and then he just laid flat on the ground! I thought he was paralyzed or something. We had to wait about 15 minutes for the police before we finally went on with the bus route.

2 days before a friend of mine was killed back in 1999.. I was getting ready to cross that exact same stretch of road.. and when I put 1 foot in the road.. 2 cars crashed into 1 another just inches from where my 1 foot stood..

Scary stuff  But nowhere near as heartbreaking as hearing my friends' death 2 days later in almost the exact same spot

I have never witnessed a car accident before, but I know that feeling you get after you see something like that.I once witnessed a robery in a gas station,it was very scary and I couldn't even sleep that night.I hope everybody in that car accident is okay.

:(

If you know the people's names... try calling the hospital and asking about them.

I dont believe the hospital is able to give out names anymore because of the HIPAA regulations. GD or anyone else in the medical field might be able to verify that.

Tom's right, you can't do that unless the patient allows it...however I'd allow any and all of my friends to visit...

Hospitals won't even give out info unless the patients' sign a medical release now, I imagine. Doctor's offices are like this now and even Insurance Companies. Just to discuss past claims concerning my husband's doctor's visits, he had to fill out a 2 page release form and mail it off to Humana. Each call we make about claims takes a minimum of 45 minutes. He's at work and can't spend time like that on the phone. So just making it possible for ME, the spouse to take care of things like this, is like pulling teeth now. And we'll have to do it next year too. Just one example of how medical personnel are very tight lipped about patient info these days.

Sorry to hear you witnessed an accident like this Jeremy.

I remember the first time I witnessed an accident. It was back in December 2000, I was sitting in the back of the truck just chilling out while my mom gets her bills paid at a financial place, but I heard tires screaching and as soon as I looked behind me, 3 cars crashed into each other on Highway 183.
