You have to assume that everyone is armed. There were many instances in WWII when prisoners surrendering threw grenades. The best you can do is to stay alert and aware and make sure you have massive firepower concentrated even on surrendering troops.

I can't even imagine what a call that would be...

They are telling the Iraqis to get back in their houses
and "stay back", when they roll into towns. I suppose
they will start taking action on those who ignore them.
As dolphin said, you can't take any chances!

It is a difficult decision indeed. We will have to see what the military decides to do.

i would just be more careful. Next time...possibly retreat to safer areas and then tell each one to come out with their hands up. I guess walking right up to these surrenderers wasn't a good idea?

Not a difficult situation at all. You treat them all as if they are hostile until confirmed otherwise. That is how we are (were) trained in the military. Take no unneccesary risks.

This can be done and still they can be treated decently. For their freedom from tyranny, they will have no problem going through this.

God Bless the USA

General on Fox news this morning adressed this issue. Simply they will be more cautious and make NO assumptions. Unfortuantely this is what SH wants. Us fighting to his terms. Unfortunately, many more people will die (especially Iraqi's) do to these acts of deception.

Saddam is merely borrowing a page from Gen. Nguyen Van Giap's handbook here...and we all thought he couldn't read.
