Yes, but it is now stated that both opal in 1995 and Lili in 2002 were about to begin to re-intensify.

As the case that has point out with Andrew, a TC that is undergoing rapid intensification likely will reach peak intensity shorly after landfall. I just wonder how strong Andrew might have gotten if Flordia didn't get in the way......MGC
