Area of interest for the Carribean?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Area of interest for the Carribean?

#1 Postby HUC » Sun Jul 04, 2004 5:14 pm

It seems since the begining of the TWave's season, that all these disturbances begun to developped convection beween 40 and 50°west,and 7 to 10°North.
Is-it only an illusion,or a real trend?Perhaps this area permited wet,and unstable conditions to intruded from the SOUTH HEMISPHERE INTO THE ITCZ?Perhaps this due to the sea surface temperature?Or,some upper level favorable conditions?
Does someone have an explanation?
So,the next wave should ariived soon in this Area, and we will see.....

It's because they begin to experience divergent westerly shear in that area from the TUTT; bad for development, but good for convection.

The area that you refer to is the ITCZ. In the western portions of the ITCZ convection is more prominent due to less subsidence.
Shear, low pressure associated with tropical waves, warm SST's, and other factors cam and will enhance convection. The TUTT (Tropical Upper Tropauspheric Trough) enhances convection also, due to the SW to NE flow on the eastern side of the trough. Look just west of a TUTT, convection is less, due to subsidence, normally created by a high pressure in the Central or Western Caribbean.
